As has been said.. A dot or irons for close in banging and a good glass 1-4 for target shooting. Check to be sure the cataracts are not a factor, they were fo me. After those were fixed I regained the use of irons. Not like kid eyes again, but acceptable..

The full variable/progressive work better for me. The better quality prescriptions/lense make a difference as well. Have them set your bifocal distance at 24"..

I tried costco new hd progressive last week and could not use my ipad to read .
Went Back to standard bifocals . I will try the expensive virilux brand that my
Eye doc, recommends next time instead of costco.
    Thanks guys

LOL! Cheap eyeglasses are NO bargain!
Astigmatism causes the dot in my AimpointPRO to look like a figure 8 but still ring 8" plates at 200 which satisfies current needs. Am considering a Primary Arms 1-6 for longer, more precise shooting.

Sounds like they botched your prescription. The biggest difference in $ to $$$ progressive lens is the width of the magnification "zone".. and length to a lessor degree. With progressives there's of course no line to help you find the zone; you'll need to hunt for it. I think that's what throws a lot of people off. Good luck..

That said it works better then I thought . The center dot is fairly clear.
The big ring is a little fuzzy but the wife says it is for her also ?
And that's using the distant part of my glasses lens (upper)
Can't use the bifocal at all.
The reticle on any red dot sight is collimated, therefore projected in the same plane as the target. There's nothing to close-focus on. You only need to focus on the target - you don't need bifocals. In fact, multi-focal lenses will just slow you down. The 65 moa ring on the Eotech is "fuzzy" because it's make up of individual pixels. Nature of the laser projection.

First off, I hate how excited I was to see this thread and despise the fact that I find it necessary to follow it. OP is correct, this does suck.

I've been wearing glasses since my teens for nearsightedness w/astigmatism. The astigmatism distorts the dots on my Aimpoint and Reflex, but I still hit what I'm aiming at out to the 200yds we shoot at for rifle quals. I'm just now entering the bifocal years, been putting it off, but will keep your advice in mind regarding high quality, transition bifocals when I go to the eye doc soon.

But you'll need to get your astigmatism corrected at the point you look through the lens. It's corrected for the center of the lens, so as you move off center it'll get worse.. If they don't get the lens centered properly, you can have a problem..

Yes. All the more reason to skip the bifocals for shooting, or use the ones with small, offset windows for close-focus.
