Thank you Vash!!! This dudes just too tacticool for this forum. With a typical inferiority complex.
Wait!!! You would have drawn on this guy??? Yeah, it's angry unbalanced people like you that give normal gunowners a bad day. I would've said something to him from cover first (considering it wasn't threatening anybody and was on his cell phone) and see where it went from there. But no way I just would've came out with my gun

So you think swinging a weapon like this guy was doing is acceptable and safe firearms handling?
I would hate to be on the range with you.
The officer could have believed the suspect was moving for cover to pull a back up weapon. Maybe he believed the suspect was running back to get the gun as it was on the ground when he was moving towards the suspect. That's what immediately popped in to my mind.
The cop gets a split second to make a decision while all of you get to pick it apart with no knowledge, training, experience or background to back up your theories or perceptions.
The video is not smooth and I didn't hear any audio other than the dispatcher.
Therefore I am in no position to make any absolute decision on whether or not this was a good shoot. I don't jump to conclusions or make a call until I know all the facts.
BULLSHIT!!! You jump to conclusions in your very first post. Man calm down and stop over exaggerating everything. This scene wasn't that serious as you make it sound. You probably draw your weapon start shooting every time you hear backfire from a car.
And yeah, I'm not saying it's easy for an officer, he could have thought something or the other but he needs to get a better clue before he goes pulling the trigger on somebody. You can't agree with that? In this situation I didn't see

Before this gets closed...soon, Ima just say I couldn't be a cop if I wanted to, and wouldn't be one if I could.
No way.

for your wives & for your households"!
I don't want to see this thread get close. I apologize
With all due respect sir, the "rules of Engagement" are different in a walmart than a war-zone.

Negative, I don't think I am too tacticool for this forum. But like I stated I have training background and real life experience to back up my opinion.
I guess having an avatar qualifies as posting my picture "all over the place".
First of all you probably would have been hard pressed to find actual cover, concealment maybe but not much cover in Walmart that will stop high caliber bullets.
I don't play video games, real life is way more fun. I was merely playing on the fact that your opinions did not appear to be based on real life experience which is why I reference a video game. Which by the way is hard as hell to play. I don't have the patience for it. I've tried a couple times and i'm awful. But I digress.
Finally, yes I would have covered this guy with my gun out while giving him commands and gaging his reaction to those commands before making a decision to either fire or re holster. What kind of pussy carrying a gun retreats when he has the opportunity to stop a threat. Especially while the possible offender is behaving like this guy was. Why not get the drop on a potential mass shooter. If it turns out that this guy was just an asshole with an airsoft gun your reaction is easily justifiable based on the video.
Speed, Surprise and Violence of Action. Why hide behind a thin piece of metal covered with junk when you could attack and overwhelm the suspect before he realizes that he is no longer in a position to win. I guess its acceptable when a police officer is attacked because as I'm sure you would say , if you cant handle it get another job. I don't like that logic. Just because there is a certain level of danger doesn't mean we cant handle it or are not susceptible to stress or immune from making mistakes.
People act like the police should lay down and die and constantly be passive when there is an immediate threat but love the phrase " When seconds count, police are minutes away".
Police are jumpy and leery of most people because we know there are tons of people who would love the opportunity to put one in us. I see it in forums all the time, all the anti police speech is absurd. Its perfectly acceptable for you to overgeneralize and lump everyone in to one category. One bad cop means they are all bad cops. That's intelligent.
Im a smart ass by nature(just ask my wife). I'm really a cheery guy and don't take offense to anything that has been said. there is a lot of emotion that is lost and exaggerated in text alone.
no harm no foul here.

I don't know who you're talking to but I would never lump all cops into the same generalization. Where did you get that? Secondly, my opinion is based from experience as well. And?
So now I'm confused. At the end of your last post, are you saying that this guy is a bad cop? You seem angry that people are generalizing bad cops. I would never judge yours, mine or anyone else's ability as a police officer based off this one man's actions. So, you're preaching to the wrong person
Response to your other comments, and your ideas on tactics, I completely understand. But what I saw in the video is seemingly completely different than what you saw. I saw an idiot but an idiot that clearly had no intent to harm anyone. Did he need to be checked, yes indeed.
In the end, I disagree with this officers actions and you agree with this officers actions. There's really nothing much else for us to talk about

I don't know if he was a bad cop. I was merely stating that there are bad cops. I know there are cuz I work with them and they are damn near impossible to get rid of. But I don't think that based on his actions that he acted recklessly. I think that we see the video differently because of what I have been through in my career.
Do you think that he meant no harm because you know for a fact it was an airsoft gun after the officer took him down?
What if that guy was on the phone using words that would give the impression that he was agitated or angry while swinging what appeared to be a real firearm.
I don't intend to change your opinion. But I want to share my opinion from an officers perspective and what we look for when addressing an incident.
No I completely understand what you're saying. And no it's not because I know the gun was an airsoft rifle. I was speaking as if I was a patron in the store and I was watching this guy walk around. I was just saying that judging by the fact he's on the phone and not really paying attention to anything or engaging people, I just wouldn't have been so quick to pull my concealed weapon on him. That's considering he was having a normal conversation. Now, if he was extremely agitated on the phone then yeah, I might have to rethink my actions. I'm guessing here but from what I saw I think if he was around you in the store it would have been pretty easy to judge he was just an idiot with no muzzle discipline or training whatsoever. A guy in the beginning stages of a mass shooting is not likely to be on the phone at the same time while not paying any attention to his surroundings. But then again the drugs these kids are on nowadays who knows.
Yeah, the Internet can get emotional at times. No harm, no foul here as well and thank you for your service
