Every single solitary person over the last 35 + years I ever thought was "our ticket out of this mess" has utterly & completely failed. I liken this country to a person, all alone in the wilderness, who has been seriously injured and has severed an artery. Alls you can do is lie back and slowly fade away. O, you may stem the flow, and briefly delay the inevitable. But, as always, the inevitable WILL come.

I think someone needs to watch a little Jonathan Winters to cheer himself up. Mr. Paul, if refined a bit, would be a dramatic step forward and there is absolutely nothing else we can realistically ask for at this time my good man.

That's impressive and it surprised me to be honest. I am a Ted Cruz fan and I am also a big fan of Rand Paul, but what surprises me most is that nobody has thrown out Trey Gowdy. He's who I would like to see get the nod.

It should probably be noted that the subject of Paul's speech was digital privacy and government overreach by the NSA and other intelligence agencies.

Here are Paul's remarks (about twenty minutes) followed by a Q&A:

The "establishment" GOP does not like Rand Paul...or Ted Cruz...or any other "Tea Party" types. Karl Rove and his ilk are actively working to thwart any Tea Party types in upcoming elections. Look at what they did in MS to keep ol' Thad Cochran around!

The people that run the RNC are not in Paul's camp at all. They don't want to lead, change or reform a damn thing. They will most likely run some milk sap loser like Christie or Jeb Bush and lose once again. All along the way...getting tripped up on questions about rape, abortion and gay marriage.

The media will make sure this will happen. Remember...they even helped Obama during a debate! When you control the media...you control the messaging. It does not matter how in the crapper the economy is or how many illegal invaders are now living in your city...no sir!

Rand Paul might indeed be our "favorite" (I tend to think it is Cruz) but I would not hold my breath on the GOP nominating this guy no matter how many people want him.

Nope..the GOP primary will be "decided" by two states that don't have that many residents and don't really contribute tons to the US economy (IA and NH). This whole system should be changed! Why should a state that creates less than 5% of the new private sector jobs in America (NH) pick the candidate for a state that created almost half of all new private sector jobs in America last year (TX)?

I had thought Paul was more a Libertarian than T Party type. I don't consider them the same. Do others? I'd hope not, but I can see Paul being lumped into the T party as an attempt discredit him. Is he aligned with the T Party types?

Left, right or middle, if you can't go to any college campus in the country and get a standing ovation on this topic, you're part of the problem.

To be honest the only entity that needs to wake us is the American tax payer. The Dems and Repubs are wide awake and stealing as much as they can and as fast as they can from the sleeping masses. Sorry, but neither the DNC nor the RNC give a shit about you, me or the country as a whole. All they give a shit about is the power, came and $$ they can like their pockets with.

As for Rand or Ted or anyone running for president. They are useless unless they have a congress that can and will help them. Even if you got Paul in the Oval Office and an RNC congress. I thing good will come. The RNC will submarine the guy to prove a point. Get Paul and a DNC congress and it's the same do nothing that we have today.

In with whoever said that this country is out in the wilderness with a sucking chest wound and nothing more than a band aid left in the FA kit. We are screwed, blued and tattooed. It will have to get super bad before any meaningful changes occur.

We're probably less than three degrees of separation away from the unraveling of this federal union.

T party type is depicted as an ultra-conservative group with narrow aims not shared by the mainstream. Butt sex, gay marriage, homo's, militant queer women in black helicopters, abortion, communist literature in schools, adding fluoride to public drinking water, vaccination, and sex education are frequently described as major concerns.

Paul Rand is an honorable man and has a sensible world view. He lacks major party support--and thus money--needed to win a national election. Unfortunately, many people view him as being too far "out there" somewhere and will not take him serious. The reason that Clinton beat incumbent George Bush is that Perot attracted just enough Bush votes that allowed Clinton to win. We must not allow a third party candidate to dilute our voting strength again.
