I have an A5 system on a 16" Middy. I don't really care for it as it seems to make things sluggish. Slows the action down to the point of making my splits slower and actually less accurate because I'm used to a different recoil impulse. I originally purchased it to run on my 11.5" but had the same experience there. I'll eventually swap it out for a standard RE, H Buffer, and Mil Spec spring which seems to work best for me.

If that doesn't work, you might try an adjustable gas block? It's not typically needed on a mid-length, but you never know.
I'll note one thing that I left out (didn't think of at the time of my last post) about the A5 on my Noveske build...

My last build was a BCM BFH 14.5 mid-length using a BCM standard RE, standard spring, and Spikes ST-T2 buffer. Even on the BCM 14.5 with standard RE, spring, and ST-T2, the recoil pulse seemed to be softer. I was using a PWS comp pinned on that rig vs. an A2 FH on the 16" Noveske, and can't say that I noticed a difference in muzzle rise between the two, but I definitely notice the pulse. The standard RE setup just seemed softer than the solid "thump" I get with the A5. There is nothing about the recoil pulse that bothers me with the A5, but I certainly "feel" the difference. Perhaps it's the difference in the mass of the buffers, but my thoughts are that the slightly longer A5 tube would help to slow the buffer as it travels further back in the RE. I dunno...

I have transferred the BCM RE, spring, and ST-T2 to a PSA build that I put together for my dad, as he is a cheap-ass and I couldn't convince him to let me build him anything substantially better (though it is nice build and I used top-shelf parts to put it together). After shooting his rifle and shooting mine back-to-back, I notice the same difference in our rifles that I noticed when I was using the BCM RE setup. That leads me to believe that it is in the A5 system. Maybe I should try the standard A5 spring and A5H3 or A5H2 buffer, instead of the Wolff spring and Slash buffer to see if it makes a difference. The only reason I'm not running the A5 spring and buffer is b/c I got a smoking deal on the Wolff and Slash parts off of the EE a while back in anticipation of running the A5 on this build.

Again, as far as functionality, the A5 has been perfect in my usage and I will continue to use it now and on upcoming builds. I'm just perplexed on the "thump".
