FSB is AWFUL, burned myself way to often in the old days to ever want one in my safe.

No reason to have one with the technology now days.

Hands were not the only place you would get burnt.

Climbing into cars, climbing a hill etc...

You have a very hot item sticking out of the top of the rifle. completely unnecessary these days.

I have both an A4 20" and a 16" pencil middy set up this way with Aimpoints and KAC flip up rear sights. I have a 200m zero on the dot and use it for everything up close; for anything past 300 or so I flip up the KAC rear, click it to the range, and send it with the irons right through the tube of the Aimpoint. It works well. With the FF handguard, there is no POI change with the irons whether I'm shooting offhand, with a solid rest, monopodded, sling-supported, off a bipod, or any other way unless you rest it on the barrel. It makes hits out to 500+ a breeze.

What rails are you running on your AR's with FSB?

    Thanks!

I prefer a FSB, especially with red dots and have no problem using them with ACOGs and low-power variables. For longer range set-ups or exceptionally lightweight builds I don't mind flip-ups.
The Lite Rail III is/was available as a FSP version, 12.0 carbine gas. It was only sold on complete uppers because you couldn't use a standard FSB with sling swivel and bayonet lug. I made a Lite Rail 9.0 FSP carbine gas used with a modded FSB. You might be able to roll your own middy version but it depends if the holes in the rail line up with the taper pins.

My builds are about 50/50 FSP vs non, all RIS II rails. I prefer the fixed FSB for red dot uppers and flip ups for the others. A fixed FSB is okay with a 4X ACOG, but isn't needed.

Shit. On my go to guns, you won't find any rail mounted sights. Fixed FSB is the only option when it counts. I agree with your original question. I even email DD trying to find out if they had any left over RIS II Mk 18 FSB rails. No luck

All the other options out there are "I Beam" construction. I.E. the tall bottom rail. I friggin HATE the feel of those rails.
