Forgive my cynicism, but witness the current balkanization of the media. Americans want to get their "news" from echo chambers which further reinforce their already held beliefs and which insulate them from any cognitive dissonance. And, again, reporters don't "need" to do anything but collect eyeballs using the most effective bait.

The role of the fourth estate in maintaining a healthy democracy is a worthy ideal but the reality belies that notion. News is a business driven by profit, like any other.

Can't imagine a worse thread for the personalities of this forum. Maybe everyone should stick to TMZ article reviews instead of big gov versus riotous thugs versus sovereign citizens ,etc.
