I have used the Lancer L5 and Magpul PMAG 10 quite a bit since being moved to CA. I did have to apply quite a bit of force to the L5AWM to get it to lock on a closed bolt (but it did lock). The PMAG 10s do not have this issue at all (All BCM uppers with BCM BCG). All have functioned without error through some unknown number of rounds (estimate 1500 shots or so in a variety of conditions from dusty to wet).

Lancer is very conservative with their design to prevent an extra round from being inserted on an open bolt. They have instructions posted explaining how to trim the bottom of the follower to make the mag easier to insert on a closed bolt. Try a search or call Lancer directly.
Where do you folks buy your Magpul magazines? Thanks...
