I believe I found the perfect off duty carry set up

I kept trying out different setups for a good long while. GLOCK 29 with my Alien Gear IWB Holster, GLOCK 27 on a Galco ankle rig, GLOCK 42 in a Blackhawk IWB, etc.... I used to carry a S&W 642 just like below except that the 642 was a little on the heavy side. This..... this is perfect!

Smith & Wesson Model 342 Airlite Ti
    DeSantis Holster
Reload on Tuff Strip carried in Mixson Leathercraft Dump Pouch
    Kershaw auto opener
    Streamlight Mircostream

Not to heavy, not to light, but 100% just right.

When I'm off duty.... I'M OFF DUTY. I don't look for crap and if it finds me. I get out asap. If I have to I contact 911 and inform them I'm a off duty cop and to send units RIGHT NOW. A lot of new guys think that the badge will stop crap from happening. Me.... I know that without a radio and backup a lot of bad stuff can happen. This is to keep me above the water. Well, this and the SBR PS90 I keep near me too.

So that's what you carry when you aren't carrying a gun.

What do you carry when you do carry a gun?

Love the setup and point of view. Have nearly the exact same, minus the badge.

Cell signals are faster than a bullet, but a pull of the trigger is faster than speed dial. An SBR'd PS90, unless you are carrying that with you at all times it's effect will be minimal. We have to face the fact that anything we EDC is more than likely what we will have when the fecal matter hits the oscillating device. If I'm in a more restricted environment a flashlight with a crenelated bezel can work in a pinch.

The SBR PS90 is more of a joke guys...

I do own one and I can CCW it in my 5.11 bag. I don't of course since that would get annoying rather quickly.

Here it is in the bag going to xray.

I assumed it was a joke. And that is a cool x-ray picture of PS90 and 100 rounds loaded! Need to see if you can get any other firearms x-rayed. It makes me wonder what my ARX-100 would look like.

I've tried to go down to a small frame revolver but it weirds me out too much. Typically I carry a P226 + 2 magazines.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    When I'm carrying a J-frame, I'm not carrying a gun. Figuratively.

I'm not really comfortable until I have at least 20 rounds on my person and either at least one spare magazine or a second gun.

Good for you carrying off-duty. Most of the cops that I know Do Not carry any firearms off-duty. I have noticed several leaving them in their vehicle usually under the seat. The majority of LE whom I have known that carry off-duty typically work custody in the jail. Go figure the irony.

A J-frame is better than nothing, but I rather have at least a 10+ shot 9mm or even better a 13-15 shot 9mm. No one (intelligent) ever goes looking for trouble, but sometimes it still finds you. And leaving or exiting the situation may not be possible.

If you live close to where you work running into an ass hole who you arrested is not improbable. Happened to a partner of mine, but he had just gotten off work and had a 15 shot Berreta under his coat. No incident occurred but I remember that he was glad that he had his pistol because the guy was in the store with 2 of his buddies.

I think that it is an important consideration because nowadays it is likely that you may encounter more than 1 threat. How will a 5-6 shot revolver fare in a shooting with 2-3 suspects? That's not even considering how slow it is to reload a revolver.

I am not knocking your personal choice just to carry a J-frame, but providing another perspective to consider.

    Most don't carry off duty?

Why? If I had to pick one reason not to be an LEO it's because I would not want to be in the grocery store checkout aisle with my family and have some asshole I collared years ago want to get his revenge on me.
Why do the loudest do the least?
