I know what you are getting at about who is your internet ? but that will have to change and as long as they do not get the monopoly on it like they have now ? some other carriers like the wireless will come through as we move forward etc.....

for sure though maybe cox and other companies will loose a ton of money and be more internet ? what will that do to the price of our internet is unknown ?

I'm not trying to call anyone out or make anyone out to be a hypocrite, but you should look at is as those ads reduce your cable bill, not increase their profits.

Virtually every website you'll ever visit has ads, including this one. Advertising on cable TV is win win for everyone. Cable companies take a small cut, it lowers your bill, and it gets local companies on people's minds.

If you're already paying a cable company for internet, I don't see how paying them for television is verboten...unless you just don't watch television. Besides, with DVR you don't have to watch any ads at all unless it's live programming.

    Astute points.

My issue is, after years of not watching "regular" TV, it's insufferable to sit through.

My bill, with the streaming services, is still 1/3 of what it was with "basic cable".

Misses Outlander and I stayed with her parents while we were doing some renovations on her house. It really hit home how much "regular" TV sucked ass. Other than Pawn Stars.

I'm getting internet where I live. From Cox. Self install including picking up the equipment myself costs $30. Unreal.

My current internet is uh hotspot based. I have unlimited 4g through Verizon still. They don't like me, last month I logged 215GB in HD streaming since I don't have cable.

Damn!! I only have 500mb of data once I stupidly altered my contract and lost unlimited data. I refuse to pay more than $75 a month for wireless, but I sure miss watching hulu 24/7 from my phone.

Don't mean to rain on your parade, but wanted to give you a heads up. VZW is working to stop unlimited services for those who still have it. At least according to the mobile tech sites I read.

For all of you other cheap MF'ers out there.

I think the real story is that TV, the internet, etc has become so ingrained that we as a society now consider it a "need" as opposed to what it really is...a "want". Bottom line is it's an uneccesary consumer product just like anything else. Typically if something costs more than we want to pay, we simply don't buy it and move on, and respect the fact that they can charge whatever they want in our wonderful free market system. But for some reason we've come to believe we can't live without TV or internet or a fancy phone and raise hell about the cost like we're being gouged on a necessity. Fact is, you simply don't need cable TV or high speed internet or a smart phone. Hell, you really don't even NEED a dumb phone.

Don't get me wrong, I'm typing this on an iPhone as we speak. But when I get my cell phone bill at the end of the month I don't say "How dare they charge that!", I say "Man, what an idiot I am for paying that".

To me the argument made for demanding free TV sounds about the same as the argument for free Obama phones.

ETA: and I'm not addressing anyone in particular, or even just this member base. Just some general thoughts on complaints I hear constantly all over the place.
