UK/US SOF to target ISIS

Can you even call them terrorists? Sure, they try to scare the bejeezus, and the Jesus, out of people with the beheadings and savagery- but aren't true terrorists trying to effect a change solely thru the use of 'terror'. AQ, Hamas, those commie EU groups- they used terror to try to effect a change. With ISIS, the terror is a by product of their world (and heavenly) view.

I'm not trying to say that they are less than terrorists, or that they have some kind of justification behind what they are doing. They aren't terrorists because they aren't trying to use terror activities to change our behavior. I think they see themselves as punishing us- the terror is just a byproduct.

Distinction with out a difference? Maybe, but I don't see them hijacking planes and blowing them up in the desert to make a statement. These guys aren't going for symbolism of the "World" Trade Center or the Pentagon. They aren't playing 'hearts and minds', they want your ass. Sure, they like a nice media platform and some slick visuals- but that isn't what they all about.

Or maybe they'll be smarter and choose targets based on maximum effect. No reason they can't go for politicians pulling the strings, SF units at home before they deploy, critical bomber bases in the US, major Highway overpasses for critical economic routes, major power lines supplying large areas, etc... All these are relatively easy to grind to a halt with Explosives. Especially for a fanatic willing to die in the process.

Except we're talking about a group of people who decided that decapitating an American journalist who has been missing for two years would somehow make the US stop bombing them instead of, you know, making us mad, upping the amount of ordnance we're dropping on them, upping our materiel support to their enemies, and getting the A-Team back together and hunting them down and killing them where ever we find them.

So they're not stupid. But they're not exactly brilliant, either.

It's all about street cred and who's causing the West to get their panties in a wad.

Deny them the headlines, choke off their cash, quietly let the SF boys start killing their leaders in their sleep, and fly a drone up their ass whenever they decide to have a pep rally. The bloom will come off the ISIS rose in a hurry and the Arab street will start looking for their next big thing.

The snake will never be killed. Its head regenerates in many different forms, be it radical Islam, communism, some other radical religious movement, Nazism, various ultranationalist movements, etc. Some would say this proves that the struggle is a waste of time, so either let them win or find a new way to stop it. But the fact is, it's a reality we have to accept. Freedom will never be safe. We just have to keep fighting no matter what, and in whatever way that entails.
