Unless you're a total slob and require a hazmat team to clean you work area, just how much chemical exposure is the kid going to get?? I'm obvioisly doing the whole cleaning thing wrong cause I don't get crap all over the place. And I'm not a neat freak.
With this and the last post I'm fairly certain you do not have any kids...

The younger the better. It's far easier to teach respect for guns at a young age than it is when they're older.
I got my first .410 at age 5 and I still have it. My dad took me outside and put a canteloupe on a stump and pulled out his 44 and shot it. It exploded and he said this is what a bullet can do to someone so don't you ever point it at nothin you ain't gonna shoot. I'm 43 now and I've carried it thru life. Most people who have this retarded fear of guns were never taught young or had a bad experience that formed a negative opinion of guns.
Kudos to you sir! I commend you on deciding to introduce your child to guns at a young age. It is a lifelong joy that you can share. I'm 43 and my dad is 63 and my son is 14 and we all share our love of guns and it's been passed down thru generations in my family.

From what I read, its inhalation and ingestion that are main causes of lead exposure, hence playing with toys and lead painted walls are typically ok. And yes, rate of metabolism, cell replication, etc, impacts the effects from small exposures. interesting info here:

If I remember Ill try and look this up more on my computer tomorrow.

heavy metals are a cumulative poison meaning it remains in your system for a long time so might be better to have kid help with cleaner parts instead of filthy. lead is the biggest of the concerns for young kids, I wouldn't be freak out about kid helping more what are they going to say to people like the kindergarten teacher who is a hillary/feinstein supporter because kids love to share happy moments
