Showed up out of the blue today. I think it will look pretty nice on the wall if I ever get around to telling people I was a Marine.

Why do the loudest do the least?
I believe that all branches give service members a certificate of honorable discharge. At least, I know that the Army does this as well.
BTW, congrats and thank you.
I like my rifles like my women - short, light, fast, brown, and suppressed.
Yeah, they seem to just appear a couple months after DEP + 8yrs. And yes, I feel basically the exact same about mine.

Thank you for your service!
Wait:
Isn't that what a DD 214 is for?
Been doing it at least since I got out in '87. Got mine framed in the wall ever since. Damn right Im proud of it.

The DD214...IMO....is like the legal document given, with official dates of entry and separation. It is whats used as verification of service to employers, to get benefits, and for basically everything requiring proof of service.
The Honorable Discharge is given as a formality, not to be used for the afformentioned things. It is given when a Marine is honorably discharged, and sometime after his/her last official day it comes. Just a nice, formal official document.

Navy does it as well.
