Army as well. It looks better framed than a DD 214

I never received one and never seen one, either. I'll have to ask some friends if they got one.

There's your answer. You will get yours in six months.

You were released from active duty to the IRR, but your ass still belongs to Uncle Sam until you get that discharge.

Isn't that what a DD 214 is for?
The last DD214 I received stated : transferred to the IRR, subject to recall to active duty by the Secretary of The Navy.

When I left USNA I had an 8 year commitment with a minumum of 5 in AD. I did six active and went IRR. When my 8th yr anniversary came up I called the Naval Reserve Personnel Center and asked what I needed to do to resign my commission. They said write a letter stating so with your ID enclosed to such and such address.

I did so and a few months later I got a document similar to the OP's but with the Dept of the Navy seal stating my Honorable Discharge as Lieutenant USNR.

This is correct. Once you complete your total commitnent (active +IRR), you get. BUT I'm unsure if you get one at retirement (I did not). Not a legal document like DD214.

I'll have to dig if I received something that colorful when I got out in '92

    Thank you for your Service

You get the I love Me Wall Honorable Discharge Certificate at each re-enlistment. When you retired you got a Certificate transferring you to the USMCR and you started getting 'retainer pay' The Marine Corps is the only service that does that. The idea is that you can be called up at any time until you reach the 30 year mark.....then you get retired pay and it is a little harder to get you back in. You also get the official Retired from the USMC I Love Me Wall Certificate.
