This will be a little more serious attempt to get myself into the precision world. A move that may well end up costing me more money I could (and probably should) be putting into my Jeep build...

New Magpul Hunter stock came in today for the .243 Remington 700. I got this rifle used in a Boyd's stock. Pretty, but no pillars or bedding block, and just a tiny bit of glass bedding around the recoil lug. Although an "el-cheapo" by precision stock standards, I'm kinda on a budget. The Magpul Hunter seems pretty comfy, and it does check most of the same boxes as the $900+ custom stocks do, including having an aluminium bedding block built into it.

The scope is a Nikon M-Tactical .308 4-16x42SF BDC 800. This is also a budget piece, but I've had the 1" tube version for a few years, and have liked it well enough to keep it, and swap it out to 3 or 4 different guns.

I have a Chrono on the way, (finally) so once I can get out shooting again, I'll be able to make some ballistic tables (in MOA to match the turrets) for it. Also, I can choose my caliber, and ammo load in Nikon's "Spot on" app to go with the BDC reticle as well.

You know what I like best about most people?

Good luck with your Precision rig. Good enough to get you sucked in.

Finally got the .243 out to the range. Tried several types of ammo, and she likes the 95 gr Winchester Deer Season load the best. This was at the 50 yd line, so you have to double it, but it's still just over half an inch. Have a few more to try, but so far so good.
It was also windy as hell, and I was having a hard time holding still, so it could be that this was just my best group, as apposed to the ammo the gun likes best... We'll see.

Suppose i need to host this picture to get it to show up bigger.

Anyways this is my first bolt gun. Cheap as dirt TC Compass in 6.5cm that I’ve learned alot upgrading and making it work for me.

Started with an EGW 20moa 1913 rail paired with EGW HD 30mm .850” rings. Stuck a SWFA SS 10x mil scope on top of that.

M•carbo spring kit brought the trigger pull weight down to aftermarket trigger performance.

Resin bedded the forend of the stock to add rigidity to the flimsy plastic stock. Filled the buttstock with sand to add weight and some recoil absorbtion. Also made my own adjustable cheek riser out of a sheet of 3/16 kydex. Bipod is a Harris BRM-S with an American Defense q/r 1913 mount. I used a B&T 1913 rail to interface with the q/r mount and make the bipod easily swappable between my other rifles.

Fitted the stock to myself since Im 6’3” tall and the stock was very short when shooting prone. Used schedule 40 and 80 PVC to make spacers then added longer screws to hold the stock butt pad back onto the stock.

Painted the stock with Rustoleum satin Dark Taupe which is a few shades lighter than magpul FDE cerakote. Then covered it with a flat clear coat to knock off any gloss that the dark taupe had.
