My take on a tactical bolt gun. A lightweight bolt action carbine that can carried on patrol by an aging half crippled old grunt, and be used in a tactical roll as an area defense tool. No, I won't be waiting is some hide for three days to take a 973 meter shot at some high value target... I've neither the patience, nor the skill, but I can hit anything I can see at 300 or 400 yds and in. About all I'd ever need in my area. Big thing is this is much easier to carry, and shoot than a 12 pound gun, or one that would punish my mangled shoulder. My old 7mm Mauser is about all I can take these days...
This is a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 in .223. It's very light, and light recoiling. It shoots several loads well, and will one hole the 62gr Bonded. Not supposed to shoot 5.56 in it, but it will shoot 193, and 855 pretty well too. (had to try but I won't make a habit of it) Had the hammer forged barrel shortened to 16.25" to keep it light, and handy.
I also have a Remington 700 in .243 that could fill this light tactical patrol rifle roll. It would give me a bit more punch.

You know what I like best about most people?

"Tactical" doesn't always have to mean "long range", just because it's a bolt gun.
Red dots are very "tactical".

Picture #2 is the day I figured out I can get to 989 yards on my farm. Picture #3 is the end result of said adventure. No dialing on scope. Zero is at 200. Fired 10 rounds and got 7 hits.
This rifle is so smooth and accurate.
