    Handgun storage for vehicle

My wife and I are in the process of getting our CCW permits here in Illinois. My wife works in a government building and we volunteer at our daughters school, both of which are places we that prohibit CCW. The prohibition against CCW includes the parking lots of these buildings. We can't avoid these two locations but the IL law provides a "safe haven" in our cars. This allows us to keep our CCW firearms in a locked "container" in the car while in prohibited areas.

I'm looking for any suggestions you all might have on a good safe or lock box for our vehicles. I'm thinking that something that would fit under the seat would be the way to go. This wouldn't be for long term storage, just for those times that we were in prohibited areas. We have a compact 4 door hatchback and a mid size crossover SUV if that has any impact your a recommendations.

The law does allow for exiting the car with the firearm for the purposes of storing it in the trunk of the vehicle, but that doesn't sound like a good option to me. Thanks in advance for everyone's input.

The easiest thing in my opinion would be one of the lock box types that you can get from Academy Sports or online at Midway USA. They have a cable that can be looped around the seat rail, and the safe can be slid under the seat.
I have seen ones with key entry, as well as combination entry & different sizes as well...

Here are a couple of links to describe what I am talking about:

This is what I'm thinking about getting for similar situations.

I have the second one in my truck for such occasions. It certainly isn't Fort Knox, but I hope it would be enough resistance for the typical punk throwing a rock through the window and ransacking my truck for 30 seconds or so.

Before you buy anything, do either of your car's have lockable glove boxes?
If you can't win a gun fight against a lightly-trained individual during broad daylight with 88 rounds of 30-06, I'm not sure you'd be able to do it with... any other firearm.

Ok, I've got an El Camino full of rampage here, so what's the plan?

I've got a Fort Knox safe under my truck backseat wired with a masterlock cord for around $200. Its not going to prevent a serious burglary with tools but it will offer some resistance in a smash and grab which is all I expect

My Jeep does but I bet a crowbar could make pretty quick work of it.
