Plate Carrier instead of Weighted Vests for Workouts

Thoughts. I bought a cheap 20 lb weight vest, with removable weights years ago. Does ok, not that comfortable but I want to increase the weight load. It shifts like crazy too. I am doing pull ups, push ups, lunges, burps, squats thrust-lunges with dumbells and vest etc...

Before I spend money on an expensive fitness model, are the plate carriers any more comfortable?

Figured carriers are designed to conform to the body under strenuous varied movement. Plus exercise stuff is often cheaply made.

    Thoughts? If so, what model?

PS workouts with it are done at home.

I use my blackhawk break away for this. It is convenient since I can just add or reduce weight quickly with the magazine pouches.

Depends on what carrier you use. I have a JPC and it's great to run with and if I want to add weights I can put them in the magazine pounches like ^^^ said. For me it was cost effective since I already had a carrier

I wear mine quite a bit during workouts and it's great, but there is a reason or two why. First, a shitty PC is going to be the same as a shitty workout vest. A quality plate carrier on the other hand will be made to last and will fit your body well if you size it correctly. But you also have to use plates with it. PCs are designed to be used with plates (duh), so when you're just using them as a vest with weight in the pouches, again it will have the same downfalls as a weight vest. If you buy some training plates, that will give the PC structure and balance the weight much better on your body. I've run 4-5 miles in my APC w/ soft armor and training plates a few times and it has worked out very well.

I've used my APC for runs and mountain hikes

I add weight using my plates, adding the D3CR, then some magazines, then camelbak and on and on ... so it is versatile

I wear my tyr bpc with ar500 plates, full mags when I do plyometrics and runs of 100 burpees.

Ive also started wearing my goruck gr1 with 30lb sandbag for long hauls as well as short runs.

Only issue is knee and lower leg pain.

Runs of 100 burpees with a plate carrier and plates? How long does that take? I do them almost naked and it sucks.

I use mine for runs twice a week, Word of advice, DO NOT WEAR BOOTS!!! it will destroy your knees. If your wearing good running shoes its comfortable. I use an LBT 6094 Charlie with plates and a full load of mags for 2-3 miles

I can do them with a pc in around 30 mins if I am not going for gold. It sucks, but its supposed to suck.
