Fire escape ladders

If you're just going down you may consider making a personal self rescue kit like some firefighters use.

If you go with a ladder system make sure the rungs have a stand-off to keep it away from the building. Climbing down on the tips of your toes isn't easy and it's easy to slip and fall if the rungs lie flat against the wall.

Interesting suggestion. I could see this being feasible if the OP lives alone and has a place to drill using the SRK. Otherwise, a good quality ladder with the mentioned features is likely the best option.

I would also consider one that is all metal, instead of the nylon straps. Being on the 3rd floor..if there is fire below you, then it could very well compromise the ladder as you are making your way past the 2nd floor. All metal would be my suggestion.
