If you've already got your bump in the night SBR and a 16"er, and since you said this is just for range fun, I'd think about going with a retro clone build. 20" A2 would be fun.

Grab the upper with a CL'd 20" under a KMR. You'll love it.

If you are shooting with iron sights, the extra sight radius afforded by the 20" rifle is appreciated. If you are shooting strictly with optics, I think it's a wash.

Thanks guys - I think I'll be going the 20" BCM upper.

I have optics on my other 2 rifles so it'd be nice to have a simple iron setup.

Will be running it with a carbine lower for a while a la the C7A2 but may add the fixed stock in time.

mark - I read a lot of your order posts on the topic while doing my research and you were pretty much the reason why I have been questioning the 20" inch - your info and no bullshit insight is always much appreciated and valuable.

I had a 20" rifle for a while and honestly I can't see the point unless you want one for nostalgia purposes or you liked your M16A4 in the Corps.

A good 16" will do everything you want it to. And if I were gonna build a precision rifle it would be an 18" MK12.

20" is nice to have if you have room in the safe for one. And extra velocity is always nice.... but yeah... a 16 will get you to all realistic distances.

You'll have the perfect setup for what you're wanting. I run an Aimpoint on my 16" rifles, but my 20" is irons only. Love it! You'll be happy with it. A KMR on a BCM 20" would keep the weight more in check with your shorter rifles. Best of both worlds.

    Build an AR15A5.

20" upper with handguards or KAC RAS. Then add a Vltor A5 with B5 SOPMOD. Here's mine, 2nd from left.

Is the A5 really that different than a standard carbine receiver extension? Worth the extra $$ to upgrade?

I was going to throw a heavier STR on a carbine lower to try to balance the weight.
