I grew up with the M16A2. It'll kill bad guys and Iraqi wild dogs just as dead as a carbine.

The older I get, the more I like having a two's of stuff I really like/use. If one breaks (everything does), I pick up the other which is equally useful. Otherwise, I find myself using and wearing out my favorite
Thanks again guys - placed my order for a 20" BCM upper tonight.
Will run it on a carbine lower for now until I can snag a blemished BCM complete lower from G and R to stick an A5 on...
Cannot wait to add the 20" to my 16 and 11.5. A perfect spread.
My PSA A4 is my favorite rifle. Between the rifle gas and rifle buffer, it is one smooth-shooting SOB. The ballistics are great, and so are the iron sights. For most of the shooting I do, I don't see any reason to use anything shorter. I have a 16" middy on home defense duty, but outside that role I really don't see any advantage to the shorter barrel. The A4 is the main rifle that goes places and does things with me, and it's probably what I would grab in a 2A type situation.

One could also make the same argument about the 20". The only advantage to a longer barrel (aside from the sight radius which isn't all that) is better terminal ballistics. Having said that an average person would not be able to fully realize any of that in a self defense scenario.
But the overall length of the 16", stock, weight, etc.. are features which are beneficial.

I would have put the money into Geissele triggers, optics, or ammo. If it's just gonna sit in the back of the safe instead of killing coyotes or getting shot then she'll become a safe queen. Not that there's anything wrong with that.I don't really ever shoot my ARs past 100 yards, but I guess I am intrigued by the classic rifle and having something different - but if it's not really worth it over another 16"er I will just double up again.
There is nothing like a nostalgic 20" AR rifle. I shot my first M16A1 back in 1978 (MCRD, Parris Island, SC) and I really like that platform. Over the years, I have had the same opportunity with a M16A2. Now, I own a few 20" retro ARs of my own.

These are great to shoot. One of these days, I have plans to build a M16A2 clone and a M16A3 clone. I would also like to build a modern 20" AR for accuracy shooting. All in due time.
