Agreed. I know it's about function over form, but I'll be sticking with the more traditional Crane style stocks (SOPMOD, LWRC compact, etc.). It's a matter of personal opinion of course, and I might catch some flame for this, but the BCM stock looks a bit clumsy/goofy. Happy for those who are excited about this new stock though. Look forward to hearing reports from the field.

You aesthetics people are getting the right to marry, and you're still not happy.

I am a long time SOPMOD stock user. The BCM is anything but clumsy or goofy. To me, it is much more refined than the SOPMOD (and much lighter). You have to see it in your hand as pics really don't do it justice.

I don't doubt that, Grant. I'll concede that if I were to find myself in need of that type of ruggedness/durability then I'd consider throwing one on my work gun. But the days of me kicking down some bad guy's door at 0 dark 30 in some far away place is now in the past, so I'll stick with what I know for now. You know I wasn't all too keen on the more vertical style pistol grips at first, until I actually used one. Now one of my carbines wears a K2, so this dog isn't too old to adapt to change and innovation. I'm sure at some point I'll get over that it looks like something made for my son's Nerf dart blaster. Looking forward to more end-user reports. I'll keep an eye on it.

I see AR's dropped all the time from sling attachment points letting go. Most every AR class I attend, there is someone mortaring a round out (many times on concrete). So I don't think you need to be kicking doors in A-Stan to want a strong stock.

I do understand that it is 100% personal opinion and no two are the same. Just want people to be open minded about stuff like this until they actually use it.

This is true about a lot of things. There are some things that opinions can be wrong about...the parts that make a rifle go boom reliably are sort of at the top of that list. But furniture really is personal. For instance I've hated few things more than I hated the more vertical grips. They caused me finger pain, it felt unnatural, and the leverage that exists for manipulations was stolen from me. The only time it would make sense to me, would be if I was someone who patrolled for miles and miles every day, and was tired of my wrist being at an exaggerated angle in the low prone which is the drawback to the traditional angle.

I'm very excited about this stock and also the Magpul SL...it looks like maybe a solution for those of us who had the opportunity to shoot the old CAR stocks and realized that big and complicated contraptions didn't bring that much to the table. Until now most of my rifles have received either MOE or CTR's. I do have a couple of SOPMODS, but in reality "sloped cheek weld" on an AR stock doesn't mean much to me...and I believe has the potential to be detrimental to consistency. Most of my face winds up on the receiver extension anyway since I'm a one click in guy(5'9''.)

THIS... and there's any number of other ways a weapon can get damaged. In your vehicle in a collision, if you have to go over a fence/obstacle. Unless I'm 100% sure a weapon is completely dedicated to recreational use only, I pick strong components.

Grant, or others, are most of those dropped rifles coming from QD slings? I can't imagine a buckle would unravel that much.

The old HK style hooks are number one still I think. Then cheap (read crap) QD swivels is the next one IMHO.

I won't discount the proclaimed durability of the BCM stock, but I've conducted all types of missions both CONUS and overseas and weapons got tossed around and abused quite a bit. I've had a weapons case fall free from my lowering line because it came un-done during an airborne op for example. Fell a good good ways down during a night op, and when I finally recovered the weapon the worst that had happened to it was a bent barrel and the handguards were off. I've seen the aftermath of weapons from IED initiated ambushes and have personally witnessed weapons taking some hard hits in the middle of gunfights. Through it all I can honestly say that I've never seen a buttstock break on a gun. Receiver extensions, yes. But not an actual broken buttstock. Not saying it never happened, just saying I've never seen it. I wouldn't worry about dropping my rig and damaging the stock if it happened to become unslung during a training venue. As I said, I'm anxious to hear first hand experiences with the stock, and I'm not ruling out the possibility of owning one at some point down the road if I deem it a necessity. Good discussion.
