I was going to say about an inch and a half but you would know better.

Is there a protective cover in the works?

    That would be great.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Would something like a scope coat (think: neoprene beer koozie) work for you guys? From there we're talking expensive, longer lead Tangodown type cover... or like what Aimpoint did on the Comp M4 (but these are intended to be kept on not only in storage but during usage, also). What do you think? I'm curious because I've thought the same thing but have since just gone with scope coats during storage and transport (nothing during operation).

My rifle is in my trunk vault so it is wedged between my gear for quicker access. Right now I have a shirt wrapped around it. A cozy type would work but obviously something more substantial is needed. Either like what was suggested with some metal extended or a plastic cover that snaps in place. Our team has gone to lco's for most guys. They love them but this issue is brought up monthly.

I'd prefer a more permanent type of protection rather than a simple scope cover.

How about some type of laser cut light protective cover, offered in multiple colors, with double sticky tape on the back? Some type of cross between Pachmayr's rubber cheek pad sheet and automotive wrap? Maybe 3M makes something that could work as an less expensive option while you develope dedicated molded armor? In the motorcycle industry, there are quite a few people that make pre-cut rubber pads with double sticky tape for gas tanks. You could offer pre-cut colored wraps and pre-cut rubber armor. I would think lead time to market would be really short.

I wonder how something made from high impact plastic would work. It would probably be cheap or at least cheaper than aluminum and could be made in black, OD or FDE pretty easily. Something in material similar to the various smart phone covers comes to mind.

I would like to see the option of a replaceable device for soot fouling and odd cartridge ejections that protect the glass for some. Maybe something simpler than most ARD's.
