I feel you but keep in mind "The Walking Dead" refers to Rick and Co. and not the zombies. The book series is very much about human connection or disconnection...

This. And with 51 episodes down that's about 35 hours of show. I think watching 35 hours of nothing but people shooting and face stabbing zombies would get old real quick.
I do agree the stuff with the Governor did drag out a couple episodes too long.

i understand. Even the great Romero films were more about the human characters than the zombies. i just felt that the whole govenor story arc just dragged on waaayyyyy to long and just when you thought it was resolved, it comes back even more ridiculous than before. And then the whole thing with Lenny James' character.... just bad writing IMO. i might give S5 a whirl when it comes to Netflix though.
