I, too, really like the new Colt "M4 Carbine" and pony roll mark. Probably my favorite roll mark in existence, actually.

Though it's doubtful, it would be killer if colt did an a1 and/or a2 as well!
Back on track... Just want to agree w a few others. Op, without question, that is a legit colt a4 w trashed hand guards.
Hand guards arent "trashed" just blemished a little. If the front sight base is such a huge deal (don't understand why), just buy an F marked sight base for $25 bucks and swap it out no big deal. People get way too emotional about their rifle being a perfect clone or not...Its a genuine Colt A4 but doesn't have an f marked sight base, big freagn deal

That's not how FSB's work. They are individually drilled and are not just mix and match-able.

Surprised this thread made it back to the front page.

I was looking at the photo of the FSB and the uproar over the <B>1 mark and it made me chuckle. My new 6920 has the same mark on the RH side; on the other side there is a F mark stamped in it, but it was faint enough when I first went looking for it I thought I got hosed! When you're old like me you almost need a flashlight to see it. Anyway, I finally got to go out and shoot. Forgot my earplugs and my targets at home, so I had to sub some paper plates and steelhead yarn stuffed in my ears...glad I was alone!

On the note of Colt rollmarks, the 2007 LE6920/Property of US govt. mistake lower that is floating around the webs is a Colt fan's wet dream. Really cool....

The serial number was verified by Colt, it's a mistake not a repro.

    I'm not 100% sure it's a mistake..
Sounds odd that the lower has a large FCG, I was under the impression that Colt switched completely to milspec pins in 2008.. 2x mistakes in one lower?

Who knows when the lower was actually made. Could have been produced prior to '08, and been sitting in a bin somewhere.

Personally, I don't know why people are getting their panties in a twist over some of the AR-15A4 uppers not having a 'F' marked FSB.
The rifle will still zero perfectly.

I have one of these non 'F' marked FSB uppers. Almost no difference between it and my PSA 20" CHF upper as far as zero goes. I use one carry handle between the two uppers and there is virtually no difference between BZO.

Are these shipping with F marked FSBs across the board now or is still hit and miss?
