There is MUCH more knowledge on this forum than what your personal references may be unless they have personally owned and shot tens of thousands of rounds through each platform like the combined group of members on this forum. And for heavens sake, don't listen to the Gun Shop owners. They're there to sell you what they have on the shelf

IMHO, and if you do enough searching on this forum, you will come to the same conclusions. Here is a comprehensive comparison of all of the major AR manufacturers, and what they offer in their rifles. This was put together (very well I might add) by Rob_S who is a non-biased member on this forum who is not associated in any way with any AR manufacturers.

After you look at this, decide what you want, and what you want to spend and just do it. There really is no reason to look anywhere else IMHO.

FWIW...I own a Lewis machine and Tool (LMT) 16" Monolithic Rail Platform (MRP) upper with 2 LMT bolts and an LMT Bolt Carrier Group (BCG), and an LMT lower, and a Bushmaster lower. Most of your concern, time, and $$$ should be invested in your upper as IMHO the lowers (as long as they are in spec.) will do just fine. I,e., my Bushmaster lower has been 100% failure free for over 10,000 rounds now.

Did you look at the chart? There are much better choices, but it's up to you. Just trying to help.

What if Satan told you that Oly Arms made the best AR out there. Would you change your mind and buy one of those?

No offense to your friend in the USN, but being in the Navy does not mean he is qualified to tell you anything about which AR is quality and which is not. You also have to stop basing your opinion on what is quality and what is not on one persons opinion. Look at the chart and understand that the guns that follow the TDP the closest, are going to be the best quality.

I will break it down for you since the chart does not seem to be getting thru:

    Tier 1
    Colt
    FN

    Tier 2
    LMT
    Noveske
    BCM

    Tier 3
    CD Defense
    S&W
    ADS

    Tier 4
    BM
    RRA
    DPMS
    Armalite
    Oly
    Stag

Here is why I put companies where I do:

    1. To make tier one, you must be issued the TDP and have a .Mil contract.
    2. To make tier two, you must follow the TDP as closely as possible, but do not have the official TDP and do not have an official .Mil contract.
    3. Tier three is companies that are following the TDP, but have left off things like HPT/MP testing on every bolt and barrel and or use cheap barrel steel (4140).
    4. Tier four companies do not follow the TDP, use the cheapest parts they can find and cut every corner possible.

Now with that said, I wouldn't have any issue with owning say a CD Defense LE M4 out of the tier 3 group.

The above is also my OPINION based on YEARS of building weapons, checking specs and knowing where they get their parts from.

Now if you want a tier 4 weapon for your needs, then great (nothing wrong with that). It is however not up to the same quality as the other weapons.

One thing i dont understand is why people refuse to look at that chart and believe what it says.

That chart doesnt mean that any tier 4 guns are going to immediately explode the second you chamber a round or have an infinite amount of problems.

All it means is that the tier 1, 2 and 3 guns are made to a better standard so the likelihood of having issues with the rifle is generally slimmer.

For the SLIM price difference between the tier 1 and 2 rifles and the third and fourth tier rifles i would hold off on the purchase and save a little more money to ensure that i got something that has been put together to the best possible standards.

Where in this list would you put Sabre Defence Industries?

That is a tough one. Their barrels mil-spec, but the do not do any testing on them or their bolts. They also use commercial RE's. So I would say that they are a 2.5.
