Re: Lancer AWM, the non clear seem to be as good as Pmags. Slightly different feel of the plastic and texture, but pretty solid.

Ironically I have 4 Tapco mags (first mags I had, didnt know better) that are my go to range mags and no problems after about 2000 combined rounds.
That is what Dicks did. To Troy. Not why some have sworn off buying Troy.

A quick Google since I don't want to type it out and get into it too much directly ITT, I'm sure there are threads floating around the general discussion area

Sovereign citizens had nothing to do with issue. It also had to do with Troy hiring an anti-gun former police chief. It's kind of like hiring Nancy Pelosi to help sell firearms to women shooters.

I believe it was solely an issue with dicks sporting goods, and that they also screwed over troy.

I wasn't even looking for an AR, but did want the ruger 10/22 takedown, cabelas was doing a door buster price but I called and was told they only had a few and the line was already wrapped around the building.... So don't bother

I got the bright idea of calling around and dicks said they would price match, I found out about the troy AR deal, and the smoking price on mossberg 500 and Remington 700.

The problem was, dicks sold all these guns, but then gave everyone else rain checks on the prices, and I've never heard of anyone else doing that, they had tons of backorders

Sandy hook happened, dicks cancelled the orders, gave refunds, and $100 gift cards. People got pissed that troy didn't personally honor the price, which I've also never seen a company do

*the sovereign citizen types then got mad that troy hired the fbi swat guy that had been a spotter at ruby Ridge

***I did a 4 day class and the troy mags (and AR) worked flawlessly for me, but since magpul sets the standard (and may have the best run company, see their mag purchase policy), I'd have to put them first

I mean, just how the **** do you make a hiring mistake like that? It just doesn't happen unless you don't give a shit about your values. It would be like the NAACP hiring George Zimmerman for security consulting.

About the whole Troy hiring issue - I think it's overblown. How many of us personally know the people that they hired? Minds can change and someone shouldn't necessarily be damned for statements or even actions that they made earlier in their life. I experimented with weed in high school - does that make me a pot-head libtard incompetent stoner twenty years later? I'm not defending Troy, I just don't think that it's fair to pass judgement when no one really knows the WHOLE story or what words were spoken between parties during the search and hiring processes. The police chief in question could have been under a lot of pressure to hold the stance that he did. People make mistakes. It's not like Troy hired Charles Manson to be a technical advisor.

You’re comparing kumquats and watermelons. You didn’t actively participate, under color of law, in the unlawful and unjustified killing of an unarmed woman who presented no threat to you or anyone else.

Sure they do. But if you’re, say, robbing a bank and you really honestly truly don’t want to hurt anyone, but in the chaos and confusion of the robbery you accidently shoot and kill someone else -- a bank employee, a bystander, or one of your fellow robbers -- you will be held liable for that “mistake.” It’s not an “oopsie,” it’s felony murder*.

Plus, what the Horiuchi/Monroe twins did was no accident.

But they did what they did because they were ordered to by their superiors, so that makes it OK, right?

Absolutely not. Many of those charged in the war crimes trials in Germany just after WWII claimed in their defense that “Befehl ist Befehl” -- that is, an order is an order. In the Teutonic culture of the day that may have been a defense or at least a mitigating factor. But the Germans didn’t win, we did ... and in our less regimented culture, you can't commit a manifestly unlawful act just because your boss tells you to. So, those who used that defense were found guilty of various war crimes**. We -- and most of the rest of the civilized world -- hold that if an order is manifestly illegal or just plain wrong, if you obey it you do so at your peril. Don’t tell me that Horuichi/Monroe didn’t know that.

Troy may make good stuff. They may even make great stuff. But that company will never see a penny of my money.

    * Murder is of course a felony. But in most states, if you are committing an act that is by itself a felony -- e.g., burglary, robbery, kidnapping, etc. -- and in the process you kill someone (whether by accident or design), then in addition to being charged with the underlying felony, you will also be charged with felony murder, which basically an aggravated murder. So if you’re driving the getaway car and you totally by accident run over a bystander, you’ll be charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit a felony, felony murder, and no doubt a host of other offenses.

** Ditto for Adolf Eichmann when the Israelis tried him in 1961.

The hiring or potential hiring of the former East coast police chief isn't that unclear, they either screwed up by (potentially) hiring him knowing that, or screwed up by not checking into his history, if they missed it that's sloppy.

The ruby Ridge nonsense is completely dishonest and is exactly like the trayvon Martin + Mike Brown lies and history fabrication only it's the far right doing it instead of the left. The blatant lies (in the 'truth about guns' or whatever blog post that was circulated) claim 'an innocent women was executed for no reason', the truth is they took a shot at the guy that had already murdered a federal agent as he was running into the cabin, the shot went through the door and hit ms weaver that was standing on the other side of it......

It's reasonable to discuss the rules of engagement and constitutional question, but dishonest at best to fabricate a story

Comparing it to a bank robbery is the worst analogy ever. What is analogous is comparing it to cops shooting at a bank robber that already murdered one officer and hitting a hostage........ Or it might be better to say hitting a different bank robber by accident

I'm not sure how a thread about which of two mags to choose needs any mention of George Zimmerman, marijuana, Ruby Ridge, and the other stuff likely to prompt debate and buffoonery. These things are contentious and not useful.

Posts about magazine performance, user experience with the two, and related are useful.

My personal stash is comprised of USGI and gen3 PMAGs

I buy a few gen2 PMAGs every so often for the panic stash to flip at a higher price when the next panic occurs and just to have as back ups for my others.

If you're ok with buying Troy products then I would stock up on some of these to flip in the next panic if I were you.
If you can't win a gun fight against a lightly-trained individual during broad daylight with 88 rounds of 30-06, I'm not sure you'd be able to do it with... any other firearm.
