So.... Using the logic of some here we should boycott Colt for selling to the FBI both before and after Ruby Ridge?? Enough is enough!

Here's the link to the discussion from a few weeks ago with photos showing that these are NHMTG-marked mags sold in a DPMS plastic bag:

Hard to imagine a better price on USGI mags with the MagPul follower. I stick with Colt/Okay/NHMTG when it comes to GI magazines, and while I'm testing out various polymer mags (Lancer, TangoDown, ETS), I still prefer PMAGs.

I had a number of Troy mags and used them regularly for a year or so. They always functioned flawlessly rolling around in the sand and dirt, but I never really beat on them hard. A few years ago I helped a friend build a rifle and he needed some mags so I sent the Troy mags his way. They've been in service for probably three years now and he still uses them. Still no issues as far as I know.

I personally didn't like the way they are constructed. They feel very thin walled compared to Pmags. They feel like they will crack or bust easier than Pmags. Obviously none of that is very scientific, but it was the impression that I got from them. I use Pmags exclusively for all the reasons stated in this thread.

I have a few Troy 10rd. mags (30rd. mags that only hold 10 rds.). They work great.

I have no idea why people will spend $2000 outfitting a rifle with quality components and then pick up the cheapest no-name brand magazines they can find. Sort of like guys who buy $15,000 sportbikes and then buy a $50 Bilt helmet from Cycle Gear.

Are there reliable magazines out there other than PMAGs and USGI? Probably, but I'll let the tacticool guys be the guinea pigs.
Lancer AWM's have proven quite reliable for me. IMO the clear/tranlucent Lancer's have the best combination of reliability, quality, and features.
Troy's mags are fine. I've never heard anyone have issues with them, but they're not as common as Pmags or USGI.

Regarding the comment on bikers buying cheaper helmets, it doesn't matter if you buy a namebrand $600 Shoei/Arai vs. a $60 HJC/Bilt Helmet. As long as they are DOT and SNELL approved, they should do the same job. I know this because I have crashed cheap $50 HJC helmets; they work just fine. Of course, the expensive $500+ helmets are just nicer.

If you haven't already, would you mind doing a quick test with some of them? 2 rounds and 3 rounds in the magazine, tilt the muzzle of the carbine up a little the way some people might when reloading, and see if they drop free every time?

I have a bunch of D&H magazines that have been around since before the PMAG was an option. About 30 of them are still NIB. They worked well for me at the time. I don't see any reason to just throw them away.

But I now use gen2 and gen3 PMAG's. Any new PMAG's I buy are gen3 mags. But I've received a few new gene mags with the purchase of new guns.

I have had a couple of PMAGs left loaded for extended periods that had swelled slightly over the years. They still functioned, but didn't drop free when empty. I could have used them for training magazines, but I emailed MagPul customer service. They have a genuine no BS customer service policy and replace the magazines without question.

This type of customer service combined with my personal experience with the PMAG, and my agencies experiences with the PMAG is why all my new purchases of AR mags are of PMAGs.

    Sure.

After a few tries with an empty mag, 3rds, and about 10rds, the Lancer AWM's dropped free every time with no issues with the muzzle up at an angle.

I'm curious, did you have doubts it wouldn't??

I met with Steve Troy a few years ago (before the stuff we aren't supposed to talk about happened) and we spoke in depth about the Troy mags and the R&D that was put into them. Long story short, there was about $3M put into the production of these mags and between design and materials used, they will be fine. I have 3 or 4 of them and they all work 100%. I also did a review on them on M4c before I met Steve. My review actually prompted the meeting...

This is with the clear/translucent magazines, correct?

The clear mags with 2 or 3 rounds is what I'm interested in.

I have doubts because mine often fail to drop free in that scenario.
