    H2 or H3 Buffer for 16" Mid-Length with Suppressor

I'm currently running an H buffer in my 16" middy, however I would like to try something heavier for suppressor use to reduce potential increased wear. I understand the better solution is an adjustable gas block, however I do not wish to mess with that at this time. I'm just unsure if I should order an H2 or H3, so any input would be appreciated.

Vltor A5 system with at least an A5H3 buffer.

    H2 or H3 Buffer for 16" Mid-Length with Suppressor

Every rifle is potentially different, gas port size and other factors come into play that aren't always the same between different rifles.

If you want to give more specifics, there may be someone here with experience with your exact setup. Otherwise, it is best to try a few different combinations and ensure they function with your setup. It's probably worth it to try an H2 and see how it functions.

ETA: there is at least one very recent VLTOR thread with a lot of good information in it that will help answer your question.

The rifle is a BCM 16" mid length with all BCM internals. The can is a YHM Phantom Ti 7.62. I usually shoot Federal XM193 ammo. Those are all the relative specifics I can think of. I fully understand the variability between rifles, but was just wondering if one is generally/typically better than the other for this specific set up. Thanks.

I've run my BCM mid UNsuppressed with an H2 and Blue SpringCo spring with .223 and 5.56 ammo. No steel or PMC though.

You should have no issue with an H3 suppressed.

I've since moved to the A5 and A5H4 UNsuppressed (suppressor on the way) and it still cycles and locks back.

H3, or better yet, A5H4 would be my thought.

H3 for use with a suppressor. No doubt.

I'm always an advocate of the Vltor A5 system, but grabbing an H3 buffer from G&R tactical is cheap and easy. While you're at it, snag a Springco WHITE or BLUE carbine spring.

A BCM middy will function 100% with an H3 with a variety of ammo. In fact, I was able to run one with no issues unsuppressed with a mixture of ammo using an H2.

Exactly. I have a buddy who runs a BCM 16" middy complete carbine with an H3 and a Tubbs flat wire (100% unsuppressed), which is slightly stronger than a Springco BLUE. Thousands of rounds of even super-weak steel cased crap and never a hiccup.

Just an update, the rifle runs 100% with the H3 buffer, both with and without the suppressor, shooting Federal XM193 ammo.
