Instead of using several levels and a plumb bob, next time use a set of feeler gauges to save time. With the scope in the rings at the desired front/rear position and the rings just tightened enough to allow the scope to rotate with a little hand pressure, start inserting feeler gauges between the flat bottom of the scope (at the dials) and the mount. Insert until the gauges are snug and then tighten the rings to the require torque. This method assumes one is using quality mounts such as ADM, Bobro, LaRue, etc. This method could also be used with rings only but more feeler gauges would be required to fill the void between the upper receiver surface and the bottom of the scope.
Report back on how the scope performs.
