Roger that. I predict we'll soon hear of optics being "unreliable" and that they'll always fail when you need them most.

OP, making a thread here about piston AR's is like going to a prius forum and making a thread about rolling coal in an F350 powerstroke, ya just don't do it

It's also a moot point, because the OP is relating nonsense that is either taken out of context or regurgitated from people who have no direct knowledge of the AR. When I entered the military most senior NCO's and mid level officers were in Vietnam. Everyone acknowledged that the initial had problems (like almost everything that is fielded) and the weapon has progressed past that stage a long time ago.

Yes I am talking about the M16 issued in Vietnam. All tho I wasn't there, I have talked to several of the Vets that served there about how messed up the system was. You might be right about the design change to the original or it could've been a cover up. Me personally can't complain about the A2. The only problem I had was a misfire every so often on the range. But the problem was discovered later as a broken hammer spring, and the fact that it was a basic training weapon n had who knows how many rds. shot thru it.
In Iraq we had brand new M4's so no problem there.
I do know you have to clean it every so often. I was just asking if there is a gas piston for the A2, and got the answer that it sucks. Thanks for the info.

This is just wrong in every way IMO. Why would I spend the money, and time to build something I can't shoot.

Oh brother.... Look if your dead set on a piston system, buy a scar. Nothing wrong with a DI gun, lube it and go.

If you follow the VFW magazine....there are still patrols getting ambushed by Nth. Korean commandos. I'm not sure what issue it was in but there was a listing of American KIA's since the Korean war. During my deployment to Iraq, we had some soldiers who were captured and held by Iran. This was never published. So do I trust everything that is spewed out by the Gov.....no!

I want what I had in basic but a cleaner one. I know myself how filthy the action gets being deployed twice to Iraq. I don't want a system that will gum up when needed the most. The Gene Stoner design is fine and dandy for killing paper but not in oh sh+t situations.
I also am not one of those Fobbits who bought a designer diaper for my weapon while in Kuwait.
hold up..... first you post this then you start talking about not having problems with the rifles you had in Iraq. You're not making any sense.
