I went the above route, sent a 6920 upper with maybe 250-300 rds through it to SAW/Specialized armament, to have cut to 10.3 and gas port modified and some other things. I'm very impressed. Running with SDN6 and without, locks back on empty and very soft shooting as well. H buffer currently, have not felt need to go straight to H2 with it reliable right now. I also have a 11.5 bcm sbr as well. The MK18 is because I always wanted one and liked the simple look of it and had the opportunity to shoot an issued one(Not mines/ a SF Sergent's) when I was on active duty, I was hooked then.

I have an 11.5". Before getting it I was in a similar boat weighing the pro's ad con's of a 10.3, 10.5, 11.5 and 12.5.
I eventually figured that was probably just splitting hairs. Went with the 11.5", cuz it's plenty short, while having something like 40% more dwell time, as per various SME's far more knowledgeable than I.
I still secretly lust after a 10.3/10.5, but don't see myself getting one. My 8" Blackout has my uber-short barrel needs covered, for now anyways.
After doing some more research I think I'm going to just keep it. Seems like there is more pros than cons with the 11.5 compared to the 10.3
Much of the 10.5 doom and gloom comes from the Tard gas port days. Yeah... the 10.5 was overgassed, carbine buffer, and retards with O rings in their extractor to cover up the whole mess. A reasonably gassed 10.5 with and H2 or H3 buffer is every bit that of an 11.5 with a much more compact feel.

Yes, it seems that a heavy buffer H2/H3/A5/Rifle is even more important the shorter the barrel and gas systems gets.
I don't understand why many people want to run the cheap $11 CAR buffer on a $1k gun and then complain it's picky with ammo.
If the gas port is made smaller to match the car buffer (like a 16" carbine with .058" port), it is less wrong.
