    Vault Door Recommendation

Put this here since vault doors fall under security which seems to fit prep and planning. If that's wrong mods please move wherever appropriate.

I need some recommendations on vault doors. Searched through the archives for "vault" and found precious little on the doors themselves or vaults in general.

My wife and I are about to start construction on a new home in the next couple months. Totally custom plans so I had designed in a reinforced, walk in gun safe, final size of about 7X5. House will be slab on grade, with safe having a minimum 8" wall thickness composed of either poured reinforced concrete or filled reinforced concrete block, with the addition of a concrete ceiling, for 6 total sides of reinforced concrete.

Now doing some google searching, I'm having a very hard time separating the wheat from the chaff when it comes to the vault door itself. I want good security in line with the level of protection my walls provide. Budget is up to about $4k.

Can anybody give me some companies to look at?

No specific experience with vault doors, but AmSec makes one and they (AmSec) are well regarded so I imagine their vault door is good stuff.

Yeah, I saw those. They look reasonably priced for what you get. The BF series has a 1/2" thick outer plate. I found a place that carries it for right at $2900.

Being cheaper than some other thinner doors, I was a little skeptical not knowing anything about the company though...

    Browning sells one.

Are you also planning for any HVAC for your vault?

Based on that, the AMSEC with a 1/2" outer plate would be good one.

Im an Architect and was doing banks almost exclusively from 2008 to 2012. JPM Chase, TD and Capital One all use Diebold vault doors.

    http://www.diebold.com/products-serv...ges/doors.aspx

I have seen the install of dozens of these guys. Best vault doors you will ever find. Don't know the price since it was a separate contract between the bank and Diebold and not part of the bid package. They come with built in ventilators which are good to have... in case you get locked in lol

Might be overkill... but no one is getting through it... easily... lol

I am a contractor and from my experience I will agree with Alex above Diebold is very good and worth looking into.

The diebold is very impressive but I'm just guessing they're far outside my price range.

I know you don't live in the NE, but I can give you the contact info for one of their reps if you want to check. Honestly I have never seen the cost breakdown on one of them.
