As for the patches, I'd rock one heavy. Even just a more subtle "M4C" as to not strike fear in the sheep at the sight of evil weapon of mass destruction.

Myself, personally? Yes and yes.

Let's not forget that in order to BUG in you have BE in.

Do you have a plan to get home if the normal routes you take are shut down or too congested to pass? Do you have kit in your car to help you get to safety if you're not able to make it by vehicle?

I live way out in the sticks and commute into and through a major metro area to work. Luckily my work is in a small town outside the city, but I still commute through it now as the quickest way to get there. In the event of a major storm (we've had bad ice storms that crippled transit like ATL in recent years) or civil fallout like Fergudishu, I have alternate routes in place already, which include getting to my wife for her safety and getting us home.

Just something to think about.

On the patches...we just need to steal the forum logo, and add some scrolls and a Latin phrase referencing the TDP.

Yep, low key is the way to go. Plus, large print characters are easier to make out at a distance.

Another viable threat I would perceive in a "smaller" disaster scenario would be, and maybe i'm just very biased down here in Houston, in addition to the rise of looters/fsa, the quick rise in heavy/deadly gang activity if the local LEO was stretched very thin/unable to respond. Supposedly I reside in the "safe" zones of the western Houston suburbs, but even after Katrina, we saw the influx of crime take its toll.

No doubt the FSA is going to go out and "get what's owed" to them when the rule of law disappears. Those living closer to the Section 8'ers will be effected first then they will fan out from population centers as the spoils of their raids and victims of opportunity run dry. Read through Matt Bracken's essays on the subject matter. He draws from his experiences and things he witnessed while serving as a SEAL in places like Eastern Europe and Lebanon when they imploded and "Balkanized". Gives one a glimpse of eventualities here in CONUS.

Border states, in general, I think would see additional issues of various hordes coming out to inflict their damage.

I believe it was our very own Moderator Sam who first coined the phrase in a GD thread on Ferguson. Damn wordsmith he is lol!
