I just picked up the EXPS2-2 / G33 combo from Sport Optics for $819, they still are running their Black Friday prices on EOTech products right now. I mounted it but haven't gotten to the range yet. I'm happy so far since I wanted some type of RDS with the option of magnification in some cases, this seems to fill the bill. Sport Optics also has the EXPS3-4 / G33 combo for $889 but I found the 4 dot reticle too busy for my tastes.

I paid more for the EXPS3-0. There is no combo from L3 with the EXPS3-0. It's only their multi-dot stuff.

The smaller model is the EXPS series. IE The Extreme XPS Series.

I have the HHS1 system on my Ambush Firearms AR15. The HHS1 System consists of a EXPS3-4 HWS with the G-33 Magnifier flip to the side. Both units have the Quick detach/attach bases that offer 1/3 Co Witness when I use my Magpul Rear and Front sights on my Picatinny Rail. The Ambush Firearms comes with the flat rail on it's modular free float thing.

I don't worry about my battery life. My EOTech can be turned off by the operation and turned back on in a few mere seconds of time. The batteries are C 123 type and are easily found in my area. They last 600 hours when used and they are not always being used so they are good to go for years. And if the ever start to fade the EOTech EXPS3-4 warns me three days in advance that they are going to die by making the display blink off and on. If the 65 MOA red dot circle starts to blink then I know it's time to install a new battery. Installing a new battery takes all of 30 seconds or less.

The EOTECH with the G33 magnifier will shoot from point blank range out to 600 meters with the 5.56 round and a 55 gr bullet.

EXPS3-4 comes with the 65 MOA big circle with four 1 MOA sized dots stacked up vertically. The top dot is for up to 300 yards, The second dot down is for 400 yards, the third dot down it for 500 meters and the bottom dot in for 600 meters.

The wind-age and elevation adjustments are solid and hold the zero. With the Quick detach mounting bracket I can take the optics off the rifle and store them in their carrying box and put them back on in mere seconds and they are still right on the money. I don't have to worry about the optics getting banged up on the way to the range or while cleaning my gun. I just put the EXPS3-4 and the G33 on the rail after I get the gun out at the rifle range. I could keep the HSS1 system on the rifle if I wanted. But I use a pistol at home for self defense and carry a 9 mm pistol on me while out and about. I don't need to lug a heavy rifle for home defense. Besides a 12 Gage Shotgun works better for home defense IMHO. I use to keep a loaded short barreled Remington Wingmaster Tactical 12 Gage shotgun loaded and ready to use at home at all times. But I got rid of that gun. So I now have two different 9 mm pistols that I can use for home defense day or night.

The EOTech is heavy and I like it that way. That tells me that it's well made and strong and will be there for me when I need it.

And even if the batteries are gone and I can't find new ones I still have the Magpul back up sites to use.

I did a lot of reading about weapon optics before I decided to go with the EOTECH system. Yes it's expensive ($1000) but to me it's well worth the money.

The Navy Seal Team shooters that got Bin Ladin Used an EOTECH system. That tells me all I need to know pretty much.

For my wants and needs and particular needs (coyote hunting at night) the CQBS EOTech HWS is the best choice for me. I wanted a optics system that gave me a great FOV and something that I could use for a fast moving coyote that got up close to me or one that was sitting out at 300 yards.

The Flip to the Side G33 magnifier is solid and adjustable for focus and the placement of the 65 MOA HWS in the site picture of the G33. It's flip to the side system is easy to use and solid. The G-33 magnifier will stay in place in the optics sight picture or off to the side of the rail. The 3X magnification is perfect for what I want to use it for. And if I need to shoot at longer ranges I can easily take the EOTech off the rail in a few seconds and slap on a rifle scope. With the Picatinny Rail system on my Ambush Firearms I can interchange the EOTech with my Nikon M-223 4x16x42 600 BDC scope in a matter of minutes.

I bought the HS1 EOTech system and never looked back. I'm happy with my EOTech.

I owned an EOTech EXPS3 with a G33 Magnifier and after a few months of use also purchased an Aimpoint M4S. I decided to sell the EOTech system in favor of the Aimpoint. (Better option for me, YMMV). I use this on an AR 308 platform that I use for hog hunting down in Florida (for use hunting at night I will also mount a GEN3 NV monocular I own). I began researching 3x magnifiers again and ultimately decided on a Sampson 3.5x magnifier. (Again, for my needs/use this was the ultimate package I chose to go with).

I also gave very serious consideration to the ELCAN SpecterDR 1x:4x Scope but ultimately could not justify the hefty price tag...

What works for you, works for you, but just because a piece of gear fit a specific requirement for a specific mission by some SF group...or didn't, and was just shoe-horned into the role...does not mean that it's going to work for you.

Spot on. It never ceases to amaze me how one SF group HAS to have the eyebox of an Eotech while another is only interested in low mag variables. Plus, as the operators will tell you, they use what is issued to them, which doesn't mean it's the best, just that it won a government contract.

Technically it's SOF (special operations forces), which encompasses any units under SOCOM. SF refers only to Army Special Forces. But yes, not necessarily a good reason to go with a certain price of equipment. But if you already have several reasons for that decision, realizing what professional units use it doesn't hurt.
