Can a Noveske N4 Light Barrel be cut down?

I have read that they cannot due to the thickness of the crome, but I believe there are pictures of one on lightfighter cut to 12.5", which is what I want.

Anyone have any info on this? Can the barrel on the M249 be cut down, and if so how is that any different than the N4 light?

    Thanks,
    Hootie

Yes, it's been done. I believe Noveske stated that it couldn't be done since you really need to know what you are doing if you attempt it. Contact Marvin Pitts @ Nefarious Arms (nefariousarms AT live DOT com) and he'll take care of you - btw, he's the one that shortened Derek's which was pictured on LF and a few other sites.

Good deal, as I am going to get Marvin to do the folding front site/cut down URX for me as well, so it will work out well for me.

    Thanks

Wes Grant has Noveske N4 barrels custom chopped to 10.5/12.5 for his custom builds but I don't know who does it for him. I've had him build an upper for me several years ago which ran flawlessly to this day and I have a LMT/N4/Larue 12.0 upper coming from him next week. WOOT!

    Derek,
I had sent you a PM on lightfighter about your rifle, and you and the others have pretty much answered my question so disregard the PM. Thanks for the info.

I was thinking, if the gas port is adjusted to accomidate the barrel lenght, would that not negate some of the benefit of having the thicker chrome lining. Am I correct in my thinking that the gas port is chrome lined aswell as the bore, to cut down on gas port wear, and opening it up will remove some of that protective lining?

I wouldn't think of the N4 barrel as having any "extra" protective lining...

They are very similar if not heavy match M249 blanks directly from FN.

The gentleman who cut my barrel said it cut like any other chrome barrel...and when he opened the gas port it opened up like any other gas port

Gas port erosion is going to happen no matter what..

Throat erosion is going to happen no matter what..

    And so on..

    My question would be this...

What method/procedure is used to plug the existing gas port?

    Thanks
