Na, that's just an extra length gas tube that was carefully wrapped around the barrel to get the right length.

You know, I am beginning to agree with this. It's such a smooth and symmetric bend the whole way 'round. I've bent stuff before, and it's never smooth and continuous like that. I guess the barrel would smooth things out a little (you can see apparent witness marks on it), but I'd think the tube would have kinked or cracked in at least one place. I wonder if it started to bend and the guy staged a little photo shoot in honor of his dumbassery. If so, you've got to admire his "own it" mentality.

Its also over a full revolution which would require multiple motions with whatever breaker bar type tool they were using. There would be massive resistance to bending the gas tube around the barrel. Plus, the thing couldn't have started out that long, unless the gas block was out further and ended up moving up the barrel. The gas tube is at least a couple inches longer than it looks now, it would extend either really far into the receiver, or really far past the gas block.
No, this is entirely possible. I've seen it happen twice, both times a Diamondback upper with a melonite barrel. The barrel unscrewed from the extension and wrapped the gas tube 3/4 around the barrel with very little effort.

Its entirely possible. After a few beers and getting the good idea to remove a muzzle device I had the same thing happen.

The barrel unscrewed from the extension. Everything was replaced by the barrel manufacture after one email. But my gas tube looked exactly like the one in the photo.
