Also, most will be familiar with their (overlapping) state laws and completely unaware of federal

This just makes sense though. Think about all of the federal laws on the books. As gun enthusiasts, it's easy (Hah, well somewhat) to keep in mind things like 922(r), NFA, GCA '68, etc. We deal with it every day.
An LEO would never be able to remember all of the federal statutes on top of having to know all of his state and local statutes. How many local LEOs can spot income tax evasion or even know what to look for? What about money transfer licenses for large volume gold dealers? There's almost so many laws that it is difficult to mention examples.
Why do the loudest do the least?
Is the brace legal for sale unregistered .. yes
Is the brace legal to place on an AR pistol unregistered .. yes
Anything else is unenforceable .. because you can't regulate a shooting motion
To a defense attorney it would be like shooting fish in barrel
Law Enforcement knows that .. DA's know that
So does BATFE ... they just want peeps to think otherwise
Best of luck to them ....
That's my plan for travel/vacations etc.
9" 300 blackout upper on a pistol lower with law tactical folder (if only the gen 3 would ever come back in stock). Still haven't decided if I'm going to return my SIG brace to Amazon and use the Thordsen or keep it and gamble to the ATF doesn't flat out outlaw them altogether.
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." Thomas Jefferson.
Yes, we used the LAW Gen 3, and a BCM 11.5" ELW upper. It folds down to 21" in length. With an Aimpoint H-1 and Colt straight 20-round mag, it's a very compact package.
And it's a pistol which you can keep concealed and loaded in your vehicle, if you have a Texas CHL. I have had to travel a lot more than usual lately, and this has been a comfort on the road. Plus it just looks like any other day pack when carried to a hotel room.
