Aimpoint QRP mount to ADM QD lever upgrade for under $20

A little DYI and you can turn your QRP mount to a ADM QD lever mount for under 20 bucks if you have some tools.

I took apart the factory mount. Cap comes off, dissemble, un-pin, remove. Take out the cross bolt and cut it down to about a 1/4 of an inch from the non threaded side. Needs to stick out into the rail a little so it doesn't rotate. Drill and tap (8-32) through the center. Buy an ADM QD lever with free shipping here.. http://www.americandefensemanufactur...w/product/571/ I used the .203 and its snug. The factory aimpoint one measures .197. Either of the ADM sizes should work. If your concerned, and want to be safe, buy the smaller one. I just liked mine to be a little more snug so I went .203. Thread in the QD lever bolt and there ya go.. Only downfall is you will only get 1/4 turn adjustments. The "make shift" nut is square, and fits in the 1913 slot preventing it from turning. So no other lock washer or anything is needed to prevent it from coming loose. If the 1/4 turn adjustments are too tight, too loose, you might need to put in a different 8-32 nut on the end. Mine worked out so I though I would share..

I need to look at my Wilcox mount to see if I could do something similar. Damn.

Thanks. I knew there was some way to make it work without spending a 100 bucks. I'm going to shorten the bolt a little to make it flush out the other side. Just haven't had the chance to yet.

That is nice. It makes the QRP less of a turd. Too bad Aimpoint can't figure that out.

The QRP knob is a turd.. Looking at my other ADM mount levers, I knew I could make something work. Took me about an hour of messing with it, before I decided to cut away and go for it. If you had no mount to start, it would be better to just buy one from ADM, Larue, Bobro, etc. If you have the QRP already, I cant seem to think of a cheaper way to get rid of the knob and have a QD lever.

So not having my rifle here at work to investigate, would the same thing work on the QRP2?

I cant say for sure. This mount that came with my Comp ML3 they are calling the QRP3..? From just looking at other QRP mounts, they look the same as far as the "knob" goes. I have not taken one apart to mic the width of the cross bolt though.. I do not see any reason why this wouldn't work on all QRP style mounts..

Put the calipers to mine since I got off work early (hooray network outages!) and it clocks in at 0.197" as well so it should work. Might work a bit better since the cross bar is keyed to fit into the mount body to prevent rotation instead of relying on the rail.
