9mm Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911

Has anyone had any experience with these? Or any RIA 9mm in general? I've researched a lot about 9mm 1911s but from what I've seen for the package, I don't think you can beat the price, $450 for the tactical model. I'm not looking for a serious use firearm, more of a range gun to use the same muscle memory without consuming quantities of my 45 acp.

So what are your experiences? Thoughts? Or suggestions?

Mike Seeklander seems to like his and he definitely shoots the piss out of it. Take that for what it's worth. If you would like to see more of it or him talk about it he goes over it on his YouTube channel.

Both of mine has been ultra reliable so far. Had an issue with one with a slightly oversized grip safety, but the gunsmith honed it off in less than a minute. Otherwise function was fine even though the grip safety would get hung up.

The Metalform 9 round mags work like a charm in both of them as well.

I have owned a RIA 1911 Tactical 9mm pistol for 18 months. I bought it, because I did not want to hone my gunsmithing skills on a $1500 handgun.

I had to adjust the extractor tension early on, but it has been reliable ever since I made the adjustment. It is not the most accurate 9mm 1911 I have fired, but the accuracy is within acceptable limits.

Parts I replaced are sights, grips and barrel bushing. I took the appropriate measurements and had EGW make a new barrel bushing for me, which tightened up the groups by a considerable margin.

As stated above, the Metalform 9 round magazines work well. I also have 2 Kimber 9 round magazines that work well.

I don't have any experience with the 9mm version; but, I do have the .45 model. I've had it for about a year now and have put about 1k rounds through it. I've not had any issues with it - other than those relating to some crap Russian ammo.

I wouldn't hesitate to by any other Rock Island guns, especially if it is just for range use.

I too got the bug for a 9mm after trying LAV's Wilson 9mm. So fricken soft. For the money I couldnt resist trying the rock river first and havent been disappointed so far.

I've gotten a couple hundred rounds through mine - no issues with metalform or meggar mags. Put magpul grips on it and next will replace sight.

I often make the same mistake, but did you really mean Rock Island? If you got a Rock River in 9MM that's certainly great!

I've had mine for a little over a year. Put 1500 rounds through it one day trying to get to 2000 but ran out of time. I tried to cold blue the billboard and it looked like crap so I had it duracoated. I also rounded off the edges of the safeties and shortened them a little. The Metalform 10 rounders work great for me. I put a 12 pound recoil spring in and it is one soft shooter. It is a rough around the edges budget 1911 but it is definitely the best $400 I've spent in a while. David
