Well, dang. Way back in the day I carried a Colt LW Commander .45 for work--with ivories. LOVED that gun; also shot IPSC with it and it was 100% reliable. In those days my agency allowed a wide range of personal pistols. It was too good to last, of course, and I had to park it. The frame eventually cracked at the dust cover, and while I got a new frame for it, it never ran quite right again, except with hardball. Finally sold it and bought a SIG 220 which I never cared for.

This one is very close to that old Colt--over four times the price, though! I like the hardened feed ramp and proper barrel bushing setup...Don't care for the rooney beavertail and hammer, but could change them out if I wanted to. But, hey, a proper LW Commander NIB with warranty and new frames if I ever do need one--I'm a goner.

Obviously God wants me to have a happy birthday.

The feed ramp insert is an interesting idea and this is the first instance I'm aware of where one is used as a factory item. EGW used to offer (maybe they still do) a feed ramp insert but it was sold as a fix for guns that had been incorrectly ramped.

Plan B would have been to use a feedramped barrel but that would likely cause production problems/changes since the ramped barrel would only work on the LW CMD and not the steel model.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if custom gunsmiths have any issues working with the feedramp insert when these pistols come across their benches. I also have to wonder, somewhat slightly, mostly out of curiousity, if the ramp insert can ever work itself loose and cause reliability issues. Too early to tell...

I think the ramp is a great idea and one they likely thought out and put some effort into execution.

Now... Maybe someone could bring back the Star PD with good sights and metallurgy. That would sell like a house afire...

I've always liked the PD even though the design isn't without some longevity and ergonomic flaws.

I have no inside scoop on such matters but I'd be very surprised if Ruger doesn't at least consider making a lightweight Officer's Model and/or their own version of the hybrid Officer's frame and Commander slide. That's probably as close to the PD as we're likely to come.

I was hoping that they would come out with a 9mm 1911 in a 5" and 4 1/4" gun. They're price would blow everyone else's prices on 9mms.

Give it time. I'm sure we'll see a 9mm version at some point in the near future. Probably a 10mm or a 38 Super too.

I like the pistol, however, I would like to see Ruger bring out a 12 & 20 shotgun (pump or auto or both) in both field and HD versions. I would also like to see them contract with Magpul for some polymer (read less expensive) mags for the Mini. Just my .02 worth!

I've been so thoroughly satisfied with my 5" and 4 1/4" Rugers, that this new one is absolutely on my "will buy" list.

Did Ruger add weird safeties to this model?
