    Sbr specific rounds

My pd is looking for a 223/556 rnd that we can use as a duty rnd. We have some rifles that are 10.5 1x9 and some that are 10.5 1x7 also some 14.5 and 16 that are 1x7 and 1x9. Looking for good penetration and a barrier rnd all in one. What's out there?

Have to say Gold Dot 64 gr for that application. 77 OTMs are better fraggers, but for Barrier, a bonded 64 will be better... and barrel twist friendly.

I second the gold dot recommendation, with 62gr TSX loads or Mk318 type setups coming second (higher price). Intermediate barriers are remarkably common for LEO applications, as are 1:9 barrels; so for something that's genuinely an improved round with the ability to run in twist-rate challenged SBRs, that's the best thing going now.

Considering the sub 11.5" barrels with 1:9 twist, I'd rec the 55gr trophy bonded bear claw by federal or the Speer 55gr gold dot, both loaded to 5.56 pressure.

This. The 50 gr tsx by BH has acceptable performance from 8-20" barrels. I haven't seen smaller bbl tested.

Back when Doc was still active here he said that was probably the best LE/conus round especially for an SBR.

What about the Federal Fusion MSR's? They are supposed to be similar to the GD in construction. Also a boat tail bullet so should carry well. I keep decent groups out to 200 with them out of a DD Mk18 with a AAC SDN6.

My dept is looking into converting our rifles to SBR. One of the sgts wants to use 14.5" barrels with 1/8 twist and bullets heavier than our hornady 62 gr. How well will heavier bullets work with shorter barrels?

I believe The Nosler 64gr BSB in the RAB556B Winchester ammo. I haven't tested it myself yet but I have heard good things about it and it is what I am planning on using in my rifle.
