Act fast as I was having trouble finding barrels in stock when my cousin opted to build one. They seem to be picking up speed in popularity.

I like this concept a lot. But I do have a few questions, since I know nothing about this, they are very basic beginner questions.

    1. Do you have to reload to get the most out of the round?

    2. I am assuming you can use regular 5.56 lower and magazines. Do the mags need different springs or followers?

    3. Who makes ready to go uppers for this that are tack drivers?

    4. To get the most from the round does one need to go with an 18" or 20" barrel?

Hornady already offers match ammo for the grendel that can be found for less that a dollar a round. Precision firearms builds match grade uppers, barrels and complete rifles in several configurations as well as match grade ammo in several bullet weights and types. Several companies are getting into the grendel game building complete uppers. Probably not much difference in barrel length of 18" to 20". Super long range shooters are using 24" barrels to get the most velocity from the small case round. Some are building postols and short barreled rifles to take advantage of the better ballistics and larger caliber. Check out 6.5grendel.com for about as much info as you can handle on the round and the rifles.

    1) you can reload it if you would like if you want to use other bullets besides what Hornady , Alexander Arms, and Precision firearms offers, but NO there is match ammo out there that is tough to beat

    2) you use regular 5.56 lowers and uppers, besides the bolt face and barrel of course, also a different follower will allow it to function more smoothly, not a big deal to get new mags, easy to find

    3) My Alexander Arms with the Shilen barrel is a tack driver! it's 24", my other rig is a 18" for hunting and normal Tacticool stuff, I am using a Satern Barrel, but AR Stoner makes them, Proof Research, etc... I would purchase a another 18" or 24" Shilen because the performance is that good.

    4) the happy medium for this is about 18".. but it depends on what you are using it for? long range go longer of course, messing around... 16 or 18"

here's my Grendel messing around last week. I was playing with my scope, but the center of the target is 10 shots rapid fire style from a bench at 100 yards.

OK I am liking this a lot.

I am thinking next trip back to the USA a CZ P09 is 100% for sure coming my way. Now I am going to start looking for an upper in 6.5 Grendal to buy.

It is going to be a range toy, but want something practical as well so it will be either 18" or at max 20" barrel. Put a good scope on it and away I go back to shooting a rifle at long range. It will be interesting to see how bag I suck after not shooting at long range for over 2 years.

it's like riding a bike, you will be fine! if you want long range go 20" otherwise I'm pounding steel at 1000 with a 18" with no sweat

Waveslayer you have sold me on 18", I mean any man with a Defender has good taste. It was the greatest issue Jeep I ever had. I had both the 90 and 110 and different times.

I just got to figure out who to buy the upper from.

I personally like AA, that's Alexander Arms, but precision Firearms makes some nice ones, JP...

lots of options. if you reload even better!

Yes, the Defender is sick, looking for a TDI 3.0 out of England now...
