Convertible (Long ---> Short) cans are cool, and are something we all thought was prohibited, but they appeal to me much more on a pistol than a rifle. None of the short rifle cans perform to my liking.

At the expense of durability, and performance on short barrels?

I'll always take the tougher can... hell, I have a jailbroken Trident 9 which could essentially be considered a lightweight Octane- there's nothing it can't do that the Octane can other than dip, and I'll probably never wear it out even on my sub gun.

I still wish the Octane 9 HD was available at the time.

When you're actually considering weight vs. performance? Forget it.
I got all up in the Dead Air 7.62 can, and it has a lot of similarities to the Saker. Mount is almost SOCOM-like, with an indexing tab.

A rep is going to bring some by for me to shoot.

So looking at what comes w/ this can, I'm a bit confused as to what else would I need to have this can be QD on not only my .308 AR, but a 5.56 AR? A specwar flash hider or muzzle brake?

The Omega comes with a 5/8x24 muzzle brake, so if you want to run it on your 5.56, you would need to purchase a Specwar brake or flash hider with 1/2x28 threads.

I was ready to order a 7.62 Saker for a .300 Blackout build and saw the new Omega. When I noticed that a MAAD mount option was not available, I contacted Silencer Company and received this response as to why the MAAD mount wasn't offered with this model:

"Thank you for contacting us. The design of the Omega required a larger mounting system; we found that the Harvester Big Bore direct thread and ASR mounts met this need. Using these mounts allowed the Omega to be a direct thread or quick attach suppressor and opened to the Omega to more thread options. At this time there are not plans for a Saker mount for the Omega. I do apologize for any inconvenience, please let me know if there is anything else we can help you with."

That's a very carefully worded answer so that you weren't lied to.

The Saker mounts won't fit because the ID of the Saker is smaller than the ID of the Omega. The Omega shares direct thread and ASR mounts with the Harvester Big Bore. And I have it on pretty good authority that there are MAAD mounts around the Silencerco facilities for employees only, that allow you to shoot the Harvester BB (and thus the Omega) on other muzzle devices. Not sure if that's just the Trifecta, or some of the other brands like the YHM and 51T.

Whether they ever finalize that design and offer it to the public is something we'll all have to wait and see on. The fact they exist shouldn't be a surprise. As an example, the Y-Mount MAAD module was announced awhile back. There was a version of it in the manual long before you could buy one...and the one I ended up getting doesn't look like the one in the manual or the pic shown on Silencerco's online store.

Has anyone spoken with anybody that has actually shot one of these, perhaps a dealer sample? Hopefully we will get more info after SHOT Show.

Not my photos, from a public photobucket user's profile 1slow01z71.

It was posted on NFAtalk that "SilencerCo says 'you lose 3 db's of suppression when changing to a flat cap.'" No email confirmation but it sounds like a partial explanation as to how those dB numbers are achieved.

That brake looks to be about as tall as the can is wide in the photos, maybe about 1.25-1.5" tall. Yet even adding 3dB when the brake is replaced with a flat cap the Omega would still be achieving remarkable reductions compared to the >1" longer Saker.

    -Saker 762: 137.7dB 308; 123.4dB 300blk; 134.6dB 556
    -Omega + 3db: 136.9dB .308, 122.5dB .300blk, 133.1dB 556 (-Omega with brake: 133.9dB .308, 119.5dB .300blk, 130.1dB 556)

Silencer shop is listing 8"barrel for both super and sub 300 blackout. If this ends up being the case it will be my first can for sure

Not what silencerco is saying. Email from them the other day:

    Thank you for contacting us.
I have listed the minimum barrel lengths for the Omega below.

    300blk supersonic 10"
    300blk subsonic No minimum length
    223/556 NATO 10"
    308 16"

Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions.

I saw that just going for misinformation. I really can't see 300 blackout supers have only 10".. haven't seen a single rifle can that wouldn't do 8"for 300 blackout. If it can't i would have to question durability. I mean even the original liberty mystic could handle supers out of 8"and that's a 9mm can
