The exact answer I got, I'm kinda hoping this was a safe 6.8 barrel length givin because of lack of 6.8 testing. I don't have a 6.8 anymore so it didn't stop me from ordering Omega. I have plans for 308 bolt gun (and maybe 300blk down road) and this fit ticket. Already have 556 Specwar and Omega already is setup with ASR mounts (and damn Saker ASR module is $300 if not mistaken) so gives me options there. Basically I wanted a middle tear can that still left versatile options open. I don't think Omega is really meant to compete with Saker, but give another option. As mentioned earlier in thread; 3cans, 3prices, 3options, all quality and versatile. 1st-Saker 2nd-Omega 3rd-Specwar.

And can't even blame them for advertising/host setup, that's just seting yourself up for success. They didn't lie or go all Jesse James

    From Silencer Shop....

" Ok to put the Omega numbers to rest here are the results. When tested with the 150gr 308 that we were using we got 140.13 measuring at the end of the silencer. When we switched to using the 168 Gold medal match that SilencerCo uses we got 136 measuring at the end of the silencer. When we used the GMM and measured at the end of the barrel not the end of the silencer then we got 134 which is almost the same that SilencerCo got.

So this just shows how big of a difference the ammo can make."

What the hell kind of test is that!? How did it sound when shot 10m left of a Honda Civic? Because if we're going to make up imaginary testing definitions, that one is highly important to me.

... Why we're still using at muzzle testing which might make sense for military instead of AT EAR testing when almost every argument list for suppressors includes "prevents hearing damage to shooter"... sort of beyond me. I do want to see AT EAR testing with the Omega with and without the anchor brake. That I think would be useful information.

Not put off by the Omega, still want one. I think the numbers in direct thread would make for a great always-on precision rifle can. But a little put off by the industry's interpretive testing.

I am wondering about the blowback of the Omega vs SOCOM.

Socom will be better. If blowback is a concern, Surefire is the way to go.

Hopefully this doesn't come off as disrespectful because that's not my intention, but how do you know? There just isn't a lot of information out there on the omega yet. Being the latest and greatest, I would expect to see improvements like this which could make it on par with the socom. I theory at least. If you have experience with both that's another matter.

I am by no means a surefire fan boy and generally don't like them as they are not the quietest cans in town but they are a LOT better than 80% of the cans out there at blowback. The Socom is much better at blowback in my experience than the saker. The saker is a higher end can than the omega, so why would silencerco dump a bunch of R&D into decreasing blowback and then put all that knowledge into one of their mid tier cans?

All silencers have trade offs, there is no free lunch. Surefire makes outstanding cans that are extremely rugged, minimal POI shift, great QD system, and limited blowback. Because of this design and who they are designed for, db ratings is not their main concern. Unless this has changed recently, silencerco does not make cans for mil, so their designs are going to be for the consumer market that wants different things than the mil market like db reduction and lightweight. If they were going to produce cans under a mil contract and I know they are working on it with the acquisition of Schauble, they would not be the omega.

I don't agree that the Saker is necessarily a "higher end" can compared to the Omega. I own the Saker and have an Omega on the way. Different materials are used to make the Omega lighter (titanium) and the ASR mount it uses is by no means lower end.

The saker is a higher end can as all the baffles are Stellite vs just the blast baffle in the omega. The saker also has a higher feature set.

As I outlined at the beginning of this thread, IMO silencerco is building out its product line (post #48) - "My prediction would be over the next few years that sakers go up in price and the specwar goes down into more of a budget can. Specwar = excelent can but low cost, omega = middle of the road, and saker = top of the line." I could be totally wrong but from a product line perspective that looks like the way they are headed.
