XLR Element chassis and Tikka CTR**pics

Well, finally did it, going to give the .260 a try. I've been thinking of a mid weight platform for some time and finally decided on what you see. I wanted the FN in an Element, but just not enough interest in it for XLR to justify making one. Having heard good things about the Tikka's, I decided to go with the CTR.

Took the Leupold M3 of the FN for the time being, if it stays, may pick up some Seekins to replace the Griffins.

Should be hitting the range tomorrow to try some loads, H4831/Lapua virgin and Berger 140 Hybrids.(no H4350)

Waiting on Tikka Performance shroud and 20 moa rail also the short tube and folder from XLR.

I really like the Element, nice feeling stock, Kyle was great to deal with, thanks!

    Enjoy!

Nice looking setup. What's the weight like with the combo?

Nah-that's the core caliber, been through a few and still have some.

I was also looking at R19 and PP2000MR

I meant to weigh it before mounting the scope. Will try tomorrow when tools are out.

    But-

Empty rifle /scope/rings/5 rd mag, and Larie 6-9 bipod /mount-12 pounds

    Empty rifle/scope/rings/5 rd mag-11 pounds

This is also with the sling QD mount and 2" bottom rail, that may be 2 ounces.

Scope should be 19.5 ounces alone plus the rings which are aluminum "weight 4.1-5.5 ounces/pair"

    Let's call them 5, so 24.5

That would make the rifle/chassis, no scope/rings/bipod at 9 pounds, 7.5 ounces if my math is right

All with match grade, precision surface ground, leveled with bearing surface, trued feet and precision to the ounce bathroom scales

Initial testing seemed ok, did one each at 50 to tweak scope and pressure test(standing, rifle on table). Used my MK1 mail box to bore sight, first two off and went over a bit more. Forgot to move dials before 100 so I just left it until I was done. Gave me a clean aim point.

Slight, very slight ejector swipe on 46 (is the single casing on right) Wasn't as pronounced on the five group shot though. No chrono as I didn't feel like f'ing with it but may try when I re test (was acting up last time anyhow) Time to save for a Magneto speed.

I didn't feel good at all with the first 43.5 but settled in as I went, seemed to throw one each of 44/44.5/45.

Where do you think I should tweak this charge weight? Fired casings are left to right.

    used Berger 140 Hybrid

Getting ready to get the element for my savage 10fp .308 but going to do a magpul CTR with cheek riser and folding stock. Trying for a lighter setup since XLR puts their stock at 1 lb and 14 ozs. Better than the mcree 2 lb 6 ozs.

    Mark,

What bullet were you shooting? 45 - 45.5 look pretty darn good to me! I bought some Lapua 123gr scenars and Berger 130gr VLD target bullets yesterday. I hope to load some up and test them out later this week. I feel a sick day coming on...

Oh-used the 140 Berger Hybrid. I have the Lapua 139 but haven't tried that yet. Yeah, I need to decide on that charge weight to test again.
Maybe do 45/45.3/45.5/45.7 although if having a ejector swipe at 46 and 37d, may want to stop at 45.5.

I was able to get to the range again today to run a few tests. It was cold, overcast, 40 degrees and windy. Still a good day overall.

Brass for all loads is virgin Lapua .260 remington right from the box. I used H4350 powder and Fed 210M primers. I shot 5 rounds at each target.

No pressure issues so I am going to try a little higher charges for the Lapua 123gr and Berger 130gr. I had 10 extra rounds of my first 139gr Lapua load and used those to smack some steel at 600 and 750 yards...very cool!!!
