    Fair reply :-)

No, you shouldn't feel compelled to tear down all your perfectly good existing lowers and swap in A5 tubes.

But on a new build or replacing a fixed stock with a CAR style stock, the small cost adder seems well worth the upgrade.

The A5 really is what the CAR stock should have been in the first place.

And yup, I've shot plenty of 20" Rifle stuff, and honestly it doesn't really make much of a difference to me... but to each his own, obviously.

Maybe I just need to Order an A5 Setup, and just see, what if? Heck, someone wanna loan me a Beater A5 for a week or two?!? I'll pay shipping both ways!!! Nah, I'm just serious....

    Another Fair Reply... thanks.

I suppose I'll give it a try on the Next Lower, whenever that may be.

Actually, thinking it over, I would much rather rock out an A5 and SOPMOD than a Daggum A2 Stock... so yeah I could totally see it worth it, from that Angle.

But I'm just curious, cause I always seemed to take away from Users on here (Over the years), that an 18" Rifle Length Gas should "never" be utilized on a Carbine Lower due to inherent Reliability Issues... But heck, Kevin O'Neill, BCM, Noveske, and many other Folks/Organizations have told me directly, when inquired upon, that an 18" RLGS would be just fine on a Carbine Lower... so I'm just curious where that sentiment may have stemmed from. Other than an SP1, my only time on a 20 Incher was on POS Worn out M16s from the Stone Age with all-original un-serviceable parts.

With H2, H3, and H6 buffers, there is no issue with rifle gas on a carbine setup.

This has been my experience as well....especially with the H3 and a Springco WHITE.

Although the heavier buffered carbine action systems can work well in rifle gassed uppers, I've been less than convinced that they posses as wide of a range of operation that the A5 system can offer, given proper porting, etc.
I agree with Clint that the A5 is what the carbine action should have been.

Well, some of you enablers prompted me to order the VLTOR A5 RE and spring/buffer kit.

Wish I wasn't on-call this coming weekend... But at least I can play with gun parts!

The US and Canadian gov't use the H2 and H6 carbine setup with 20" uppers quite successfully.

You are correct. But, I think the point is that you can't take the carbine lower from your suppressed 10.5" and put it under your 18" spr with rifle gas....except you can with the A5 system. It's simply more forgiving.

And, for a smoothness FREAK like me, it's near race gun smooth while delivering that excellent reliability.

Most people use an H2 or H3 with a 10.3", which also works fine with a rifle.

I like the A5, but anything that will run, will run with a carbine spring and H or H2 buffer will run with anything.
