Back when I ran a Vltor setup on my 16.1" DDM4 middy, I was using the "regular" buffer that came with it, and it did very well. It would cycle Wolf if held to the shoulder relatively well. Never shot TULA, so I don't know. If you want to run 55gr Russian stuff though, I'd back off 1 buffer "size" from what is included in the regular kit.

Or add an LMT e-carrier. Those tend to add margin if the ammo is on the verge of short stroking.

That confuses me, as I thought the E-carrier was to REDUCE cyclic rate.

I haven't tested for that. But it has shown in my experience that it allows slightly more gas drive than a normal carrier.

Interesting. Extra hole just for show.

Probably why it sucks on SBR's and other over-gassed guns.

There's a lot more than just an extra has vent hole..... Or two. There's also the divergent dual entry holes as the gas enters the expansion chamber. And, also, the altered cam pin track.

It all adds up to more free extraction and less gas energy being spent/wasted tugging at a case that is still obturated.

I haven't found it to allow a full move up in buffer weight, more like half way in between weights. So, if a gun runs marginally with an H2, the e-carrier will typically allow it to run reliably.

Does it work with a mil-spec cam pin and bolt? If so, do you note less cam-pin wear with this carrier than mil-spec? Other than "it allows a heavier buffer", what tangible benefits have you noticed?

I have seen it recommended here to use an A5H3 as a default with a suppressed sbr, or A5H4 with the LMT carrier. Some have wondered if the A5H4 will work, it does for me

My brass is in better condition and cleaner, even though I don't reload. And yes, I use a std LMT bolt and a V7 weapons enhanced cam pin. Prior to that, I used a WMD NiB cam pin and experienced normal wear. The V7 pin shows no wear as of yet. Very pleased with it so far.

The tangible benefit is that the lengthened cam pin track adds to bolt life by delaying extraction. And, no, don't bother asking me to quantify that. I can't any more than I can quantify how much longer my car's engine will last because I use synthetic oil over conventional.

Most of the ones who "wonder" haven't tried one.
