I know a carbine tube with an H and H6 buffer will run those uppers.
If the 14.5 will run on the H6 it'll run on the A5H2 (standard) buffer.

The MOE SL will close completely on the VLTOR 7 position tube so it should work with the BCM 8 position too.

My BCM 14.5" middy runs on an A5H4 buffer with an LMT e-carrier. Runs with tula.

EDIT: Each gun is different and I'm not recommending going that heavy. The std buffer is fine.

I have an FN MILSPEC upper and it runs with the A5H3 and green Sprinco spring, LMT enhanced carrier with a variety of ammo to include Hornady Steel TAP, M193, M855, and markm handloads.

A buddy of mine bought a mil-spec diameter MOE SL stock and has a commercial RE. I recommended making the swap to a mil-spec extension, he agreed, wants me to get the parts and put it on.

He has a BCM complete 14.5" mid, and a 20" A4 lookin' upper built with a Colt upper and BCG, and an FN barrel. He only shoots 5.56 and good quality .223. Never any Wolf or Tula or anything like that. His .223 is mostly Federal and Winchester soft points. Those are his only two uppers, he does not have a suppressor.

I know a carbine tube with an H and H6 buffer will run those uppers. I could sell him those parts out of my stash, but if the A5 would do anything better for those two uppers, I'd go that route. I really like the A5 behind the 20"...

I know it'll run great with the 20", I've never tried one on a 14.5" BCM mid. I just remember shooting with jonconsiglio a few years ago and he, and others didn't have as good of luck with that setup.

If ya'll say it'll run, I bet it will. In any case, the setup was going to have two buffers anyway, so if he has to go to a lighter with mid, then it's not a big deal. It's usually hot here, and we're low elevation....

With all quality parts, I find it difficult to make a gun NOT RUN WELL, with an A5 set up.

I have two 14.5's. (One is a BCM)I've run with a can and without a can.

Hi All! Finally jumped into the A5 world and got the bcm/vltor intermediate RE installed on my Colt lower. Im going to be running a milspec Colt 6921 upper (14.5 inch barrel + carbine length gas system) with this lower. Im going to be running a sprinco green spring. Although ill likely end up trying several different Vltor A5 buffers, I was thinking about starting with the A5-H1 (4.56 oz). What do you guys think about the A5H1 + sprinco green spring w/ Colt 14.5" + carbine length gas rig as a starting point?

I would start at an A5H2 and go heavier from there. A5H2 is the standard Vltor A5 buffer. Why BCM went so light (A5H0), I don't know.

The 6 position vltor leaves about an inch, the 7 position closes to threads with Magpul slimline

14.5" and 16" have the same port size. My Colt has the A5H4 in it with Sprinco spring and it runs just fine.

my goodness! a 6.83 oz buffer in a 14.5" carbine (w a sprinco green, no less)?! I was not expecting to hear of people slinging that kind of weight around in their rig. Nonethelss, thanks for the info. Glad I asked the question. I never would have considered even trying such a heavy buffer in this gun. I pretty much just run H buffers in middys and H2s in carbines and call it good (have had excellent results with that practice). It seems that weight results from carbine RE + buffers cannot be extrapolated to the A5? I guess Ill just try out several different A5 buffers with different types of ammo and see what I can get away with. Thanks again, guys. Excited to shoot the thing!
