Is my understanding correct?
A green springco spring will have more felt recoil than the vltor or standard rifle?
And, from this thread or another, the LMT carrier may have more felt recoil?
The benefit of both should be greater reliability but less smooth ?
Not necessarily more reliability for the Springco green spring, but definitely more longevity.
If you have a gun that already shoots smoothly, then a green can give you muzzle dip where the std spring wouldn't. If your gun bucks pretty good or doesn't have a good comp, you may want that extra oomph to drive the muzzle down and get less net gun movement.

" What is the difference between the RE-A5 and the RE-10/A5SR? one is six position and one is 7 position, but beyond that, is there any functional difference between the two? To further complicate things, I was perusing bcm's website and I noticed they are selling the BCM intermediate receiver extension. It looks like its just a vltor A5, but it is an 8 position receiver extension. What is that? Is there a functional difference between the bcm/vltor intermediate RE (8 position) and the vltor 7 position A5"
I also searched and couldn't find an answer. I need to get one ordered tomorrow and the Vltor is out of stock everywhere.
No functional difference. The info is on M4C with respect to the different stock positions with all 3 versions. If I wasn' on pho ne i could probably find the thread, sorry.

Same spring, weight, etc
I've ordered vltor a5 from dsgarms.com and vltor directly that's probably the easiest
DSG has them in stock https://dsgarms.com/vlv2-1165-c1
That is correct - although it might be subject to change (or customer option) in the near future. I still think that's a savvy choice, because it means the 14.5" Middy uppers they sell which are smooth with 5.56 pressure ammunition are more likely to be asked to function with underpowered .223 junk with an A5 RE/Buffer/Spring setup.
