    Not a bad idea.

You cannot engrave the barrel. Yes, read the NFA guidelines. Plenty of threads on how to legally make a SBR.

Except locally one of the shops is selling Anderson Arms stripped lowers for $39.95. How much do you think it will be worth after your engraving is slapped on it?

I haven't gone the SBR route yet because I have a RR M16 (for now). When I do, I'm going to try going the best quality route. I'm also going to try and do it on a Form 4, so engraving isn't an issue (but finding one can be). That way I CAN get my money back out of it if I ever need to. On a Form 1, I'd definitely go cheap.
That's what I did, SBR'd my AX556 lowers and now those lowers are unobtanium.

Actually, you can engrave the barrel. It's just hard to do it in a place where the markings are conspicuous. And yes I have read the requirements.

That's exactly the one I'd like to have. Color me jealous.

It's high time for the whole NFA to go away.

You absolutely can engrave the barrel. Not only do the statutes say that, ATF Ruling 2013-3 reinforces it.

You'd just have to engrave any short barrel you used on it if you didn't make it a dedicated barrel/upper SBR.

Right. I stand corrected. Just make sure every barrel you put on it is engraved. Seems way more of a hassle. I'll shoot out a crap ton of barrels before ever replacing a lower.

It is a hassle, and not very practical, but passing on correct information was the point.
